Club To Trial New Singing Section
Leicester City have agreed to trial a new 'Singing Section' at their upcoming home league game against local rivals Coventry City.
The club were originally approached by a group of supporters who were keen to improve the matchday atmosphere inside the Walkers Stadium.
And following a consultation process the idea was given the green light - and will be tried out for the first time when the Sky Blues are the visitors on Saturday, February 17.
N Block, which is situated in the Marks Electrical Stand (North Stand), has been identified as the area of the stadium open for City fans to create additional atmosphere to support the players.
A drum, which has been kindly provided by local Leicestershire company Premier Percussion, will also be given to the supporters to help their efforts in raising the noise levels. Fans are also being encouraged to bring back the City flags that were distributed at the start of the season to add colour.
Match tickets will be available for purchase in this area until close of business on Friday February 16. Season ticket holders who wish to relocate to this area will be able to do so, providing they contact the Ticket Office before the February 16 deadline.
A City Spokesman said: "There is a willingness from the Club to trial something new in a bid to help improve the atmosphere at the Walkers Stadium.
"We were approached by a small group of supporters who wanted to make a difference and we were impressed by their attitudes towards a 'Singing Section'. We have therefore agreed to trial the concept for our next home game.
"If the trial proves to be successful, we will be happy to extend the idea for further games this season and then potentially into next season.
"Since the move to the Walkers Stadium, we have experienced similar problems to a number of other clubs who have moved into a new ground. Some fans have complained that the atmosphere is not as good as at the old stadium.
"With the Kop and parts of the Alliance & Leicester Stand already reasonably established, the aim is to help develop an atmosphere across other areas as well. The Coventry game an important fixture for us, especially with it being a local derby as well, and if the fans can create a real atmosphere across the whole stadium then this can only help the team."
City fan Jamie Treadwell, who along with a group of friends contacted the Club regarding the Singing Section concept, is delighted to have received the Club's approval for a trial.
He added: "Its great news to be able to trial the idea at the Coventry game. A number of us wanted to do something different to try and improve the atmosphere and we are grateful to the Club for listening to us. It's down to us now to create the sort of atmosphere we all want at the Walkers Stadium."
City fans wishing to sit in the Singing Section for the Coventry game are reminded that ticket sales will not be available on the day of the game - so purchases or relocations must be organized with the Ticket Office by Friday, February 16 at the latest.
