I’m sure I heard that the ref asked him if he had done it, to which he obviously replied that he hadn’t, so didn’t get the yellow card

Glad he wasn't booked for it as what harm is it? Unless you're being political or adding to the sparse sponsorship you see at football then **** it. The referee and linesman not noticing is just another great example of how shit our officials are.
