Mark McGhee has a new job

McGhee left us citing Wolves as being a bigger club than we were. At the time, that was a questionable decision and we took immense pleasure when we soared ahead of them under his successor Martin O'Neill. The postcards addressed to him from our UEFA Cup tie in Madrid being the highlight of this period.

In the intervening twenty years, both clubs have had plenty of ups and downs. Nowadays, there are very few top flight clubs of ambition outside the North West or London. It's probably between us and them again for the time being.

They are starting their stadium expansion next year with a view to increasing their capacity to 46,000. We were planning something similar but it has gone really quiet since Vichai's death. They've pulled clear of us in the league now too.

This might be the time that Wolves finally do prove to be the better option.
