Could be great news if he's willing to step back into being a part of NP's back room staff - he's unlikely to get another Championship job (I'd have thought), so he'd have to decide if being an assistant would be preferable.

It easy to make a comment like that, but what we have at the moment isn't about a single person, it's about the whole club pulling in the same direction. Even the best managers will find it hard to deliver if they have an unstable club (which most championship clubs do), which is why we see so few championship managers getting the opportunity to manage at a higher level.
For me, there are probably lots of good managers in the Championship that have either been at a club where things were never going to work out or have been fired by trigger happy owners before having the chance to change things as they saw necessary. Our own experience with NP, who many wanted gone after the Watford play off match, should show us that you can't prove you're a good manager in a single season.
Personally, I do think Chris Powell has the potential to be a good manager, but he needs to pick his next move very carefully.

What for me made Matt Gillies the only truly great City manager, was that after he left us he went Trentside and got them relegated. Nigel, that is your challenge, if you wish to accept it.
