Yes, he's really on the ball isn't he? We knew that yesterday. Maynard is injured.

I believe Maynard may have a slight problem, nothing enough to stop him playing, and nothing certainly to stop him from travelling with the squad. He's being left out as a bad injury will scupper the whole deal.

He hates us, that there Nicky Maynard. Hates us with a vengeance

I knew it all along

The bastard

I hope he's happy the bastard.

He's done it deliberately, just to scupper our season

I hate him - not as much as he (obviously) despises us, but it's pretty close

Stubborn Bristol City have refused to sell Nicky Maynard to Championship rivals Leicester for a fourth time. Desperate to add firepower to an expensively assembled squad which remains short of goals, the east Midlands club made three attempts to sign the 24-year-old Robins striker in July, only to be knocked back on each occasion. Undeterred, the Foxes came back in with another offer this week, but were told "nothing doing" by City directors, who are desperate not to sell their star player during this transfer window. Leicester's latest bid for Maynard was made unofficially over the telephone and that, far from giving up hope, Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is more determined than ever to get his man.

We've actually boxed very clever here. As any self respecting football fan (and don't we all respect ourselves?) is well aware, the 'five-bid-rule' now comes in to play.

The fifth bid in any transfer window for any one individual player MUST be accepted regardless of quantum.

This is where we nip in right at the end of the window with a bid of £125k + Martyn Waghorn + Chris Weale and BCFC are literally powerless to reject it.

God bless the 'five-bid-rule' and of course Marcus Five-Bid - the Faroese player who first forced the issue and after whom the rule is named.

From Martin Samuel in yesterdays Mail.

First remotely sensible sequence of words Martin Samuel has ever produced, ever.

What's the betting somebody reads this and thinks to themselves 'wow, is that true?'

If only we had known this back in June
