I believe that they confirmed on the phone-in that there will be no reserve team this season. Like in 2006/07.

Firstly, this appears to make Gerry Taggarts position pretty unnecessary. He's not mentioned in the programme and was supposed to be reserve team manager. Any ideas?

However, I do recall that this policy caused numerous problems when used before. We found that players who hadn't been playing regularly were so off the pace and not match fit, that they were largely a waste of time when they were required.

This was also when we had a considerably smaller squad than we have now. We must have around 35 pros in the squad. This means that there will be an awful lot of unfit, and under-used, players this season.

Presumably we'll arrange some friendlies through the season, and loan a few out, but it's a mistake to go without regular and reasonably competitive reserve team matches in my opinion. We may as well have 10-12 players less.

Aye they said we did not enter this year but said other clubs have done the same and matches will be played or words to that effect :icon_wink

Really? That's insane if true.

Thought when it happened before it was ridiculuous then, and to do it now just as much so, if not more!
Said at the time, and I still think it's true, that the form and fitness of a lot of players suffered because of it, Fryatt as a prime example of this.

Now would be possibly be even more a shame because players we have several potentially good academy graduates (Odhiambo, Chambers etc) for whom reserve games are an important part of their development if they are not getting in the first team.

Very, very bad decision, whoever made it..

Finance was cited as one of the reasons but I have to say over the season that approach may well be short-sighted. :icon_conf

You will find a new inner club league set up by themselves ,which could make the clubs more money than paying a league ,could have the return of family night at the walkers :102:

no reserve team, and no ball boys at Sat match

The price of relegation.

Anybody notice the amount of empty advertising boards on Saturday? Obvious signs of revenue drying up.

If revenue slows, so must expenditure. If it's costing money hosting these games, they have to go. If you increase ticket prices, nobody will go anyway.

I see increased squad rotation this season as one way to keep players active.

there was one near me but he must of only been about three he could barely pick up the ball!
One of the boys at the school I work at was a Ball Boy down there last season - he's 13

I shall ask him what the situation is when the schools re-open and I'll be able to put your mind at rest.

less than half the 'co-operate' boxes in use too.

I am sure its due to them being on school holiday's and they are not back to pre-seaon training yet ,not 100% on that tbh

I got told by a guy i work with, whos kid plays for the academy, that they cant afford to have the academy kids do it anymore as they have to be paid?

How true this is I dont know, but like I said, his kid plays for City so there must be some truth in it. :102:
