I think the real issue is that some uncomfortable writing is starting to be visible on the wall - that the team are starting to not look good enough. In other words, the slow slide from top to 4th looks like continuing, and certainly doesn't look like it will be reversed.

In response to some of the posts above about booing or not I would suggest:
1) that anyone who says 'what's the matter with you can't you see we're 4th/we're not Chelsea etc' recognises that on current displays the team are not going to get back to the top two - and might even struggle to stay in the top 6. These posts have distinct tones of 'blue mongie syndrome'. They seem to be saying 'oh it will all be allright soon if we get behind the team.' I very much doubt it.
2) that the rest of us who think as above, voice these views and frustrations - but don't boo the players during a game - it's not the right thing to do (booing however at the final whistle is totally justified if the performance has been utterly bad. In my view that is the only time one should boo)

I think the signs are clear now that the midfield unit is not an adequately functioning one. The wingers look good enough (jury still out on Gradel perhaps), but the centre pairing just aren't helping the attack and protecting the defense enough. There is something badly wrong and lightweight about it. Meanwhile, the attack is starting to look distinctly poor as well. You can of course try to be optimistic and claim this is all tosh by pointing to the goals scored so far - but look at the signs staring us in the face now... Do you want to wait another 10 games with the club in mid-table before you think action is necessary?

There is a crying need for a different type of midfielder. I think King will be a fine midfielder - but being in a midfield of two (with 2 wingers) is too strong a weight on his shoulders right now. The attack needs new blood. As an emergency measure in the next couple of games I'd say resort to Hayles and then Dickov as soon as he is fit. But we need a new forward asap for the season as a whole.

Hmmmmm. I just think we need to chill our beans a little bit here Consty. A couple of games ago we were the best team ever and now we need to make radical changes.

A bit of new blood wouldnt go a miss later in the season and yes it should have been 6 points and not 2 from the last two home games but lets not get to carried away just yet.

This has been a massive problem over the last few years. Massive peaks and troughs in the fans opinions of the team. Beat a team one week and most of the team should be in the England squad, lose the next week and they should all be at the knackers yard. We in some small part contributed to this slide of previous seasons and its doesnt take a genius to work out why we are better away from home.

Time and support is needed at this point. We are doing something that we havent done for a long long time which is build a team and have some consistenticy in selection. Yes the odd bit of tinkering is good but lets be realistic we cant win every game. We will get back on track but the odd wobbly spell is to be expected as well - that is football.

Found this on Wikipedia for Stephen Carr. I dont know how recent it is. Dont know which thread to stick it under so this will do.

'He had been linked with moves to Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham United, Wigan Athletic, Hertha Berlin and Bohemian F.C.. Carr has recently been on trial with League 1 side Leicester City where he would link up with Nigel Pearson whom he played under at Newcastle.'

Correction - its fairly recent and was updated on the 16th of Oct.

I want David Connelly back, he is in the reserves of Sunderland

We will rarely win at home until we work out how to create chances and convert them. Teams will come and sit in and hit us on the break like they have been doing for years now.

we seem to be over-passing it quite a lot especially when shifting it from one wing to the other its all a bit telegraphed

It was a rumour on FT but apparently a load of bollox.

The centre of midfield was a problem in the Summer and it still is now. No-one was some brain and an eye for a pass.

I dread to think what it will be like on here when we lose a game!

Agree with most of that, except the bit about King.

it's 3 draws on the trot not 2. It's the end of the fecking world

I'm assuming Melts didn't class the away point at Oldham as part of our "bad spell".

a 0-0 result against a team that has only managed 1 away win out of 6 or 7 games is a crap result imo
