The board feck the whole deal up overnight and it's all gone pear shaped.

Yes, but You would expect a united board to stay in place to see their recommendation through. Announcing the chairman has resigned before announcing a recommendation sends signals.

it has already been said somewhere, that MM will be in prior to the EGM. This means that the required amount of shareholders needed have already said yes....

I don't think my post is true, it's just an alternative before we get too excited.
If we believe the FT, this is too early to resign.
My own personal opinion is that they have resigned and handed over their shares to MM already to speed the whole process up, maybe in a private deal
