I would say yes - as long as it can be done with some civility. But that was not the case in this instance.

As I travel about the country I am probably one of the most identifiable members of Talking Balls. People often tell me that they lurk and that they would like to join in - the one thing that stops them doing so is their dislike of some of the more uncouth posts and the antagonistic posts from some people - that and their fear of being ridiculed from their very first post. The same names come up time and again and I am asked how I can put up with such attitudes. The kind of posts that we have been seeing recently have an enormous negative impact on the good name of this group.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking people to be civil.

Thing is a good few of us on here who call each other and slate each other but its done in jest.Are we to stop doing that then because an outsider maybe put off by it ?

I'd hope not but there is a difference between that and continually being abusive. Which the mods should be able to distinguish between and control.
