Painfully Slow

It is very intermittent, sometimes the "treacle" only lasts fopr a few seconds and by the time I've posted it's OK again. Sometimes it's minutes.

I know it's petty, but it's very frustrating and infuriating

I think I've worked out what the problem was on that occasion, it was the daily stats logging run for all the sites on the server. I've set it to run several times a day instead, which will spread the load out over the day rather than all at once.

Since you moved it to the new server the site has been consistently quicker for me than ever it was on the old server. Did you move it to the south-east? Is my wire shorter?

It is now closer to the South East, and to the internet backbone, so if everything is working correctly it should be slightly quicker for most people, but not so that it's very noticeable.

The problem with the new server is a lack of memory, which is leading to a lot of disk swapping, causing the occasional periods of slowness on the site. There are a number of things I can tweak to hopefully improve the performance, but it will take a bit of trial and error to getthe best settings.

So please keep posting here if the site does slow down.
