Parkes Signs Professional Contract
Posted on: Tue 06 Oct 2009

Leicester City Academy player, Tom Parkes, has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Parkes has already starred for England U17s and has been with the academy since he was under the age of ten.

Academy Manager, Jon Rudkin, said: "Tom is a good young prospect, who is working very hard at his game. His long term target is to go on and figure at first team level."

I got a response from the Club about sponsoring Parkes and the Club quoted me the following.

Player Sponsorship

Player Sponsorship packages offer companies an affordable way to gain exposure via branding in every home matchday magazine and branding on the lcfc.com website.
Also included is a VIP hospitality day for four guests which includes a pitchside presentation and photograph with the sponsored player.

Cost:
£1000 + VAT, this equates to just £44 + VAT per fixture.

If anyone wants to join me in sponsoring him then I might consider it but at £1000 it is difficult for me to justify it. :icon_wink

Is he any good?

Didnt somebody sponsor a youth player only for them to become a "star" and for the sponsorship to be cancelled by the club and a "bigger" sponsor take over?

Or have I just made all of that up?

That does ring a bell, but I could easily be mistaken!

Similar campaign a couple of years ago to sponsor Richard Stearman, subsequently coordinated by the good old Foxes Trust and some sad losers (including some on here *ahem*) chipped in their cash to sponsor him

Dickie subsequently established himself in the first team, and the club decided that he should have a brand new 'first team sponsor' which turned out to be some corporate johnnies - the 'FT consortium' were told that their original financial contribution would still stand as the sponsor of Stearman at Academy level (even though he didn't play for them any more)

Stitched up like a kipper, as they say in Peckham....
