Nigel Pearson is expected to be named as Leicester City's new manager today after compensation was finally agreed with Hull City.
Hull owner Assem Allam was holding out for more than £1 million before agreeing to allow Pearson to talk to City about succeeding Sven-Goran Eriksson.
But, after a week of frustration for City, Allam agreed to a compromise on Saturday.
Pearson, below, was reported to have had a compensation clause of a minimum of £675,000 in his contract, the figure the Tigers are believed to have paid City for his services less than 18 months ago.
But Allam was rocked when Pearson indicated he wanted to speak to City, who approached Hull last Saturday for permission to hold talks.
The whole deal appeared on the brink of collapse on Friday because no agreement seemed possible and Pearson was reluctant to resign from his position at Hull.
But Allam's stance is said to have softened over the weekend.
Now City will finalise personal terms with Pearson and his assistants, Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh, before unveiling them as the management team City owners Vichai and Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn believe will take the club into the Premier League.
When Pearson is unveiled, it will complete a remarkable return to City for the 48-year-old, who left City in June 2010.
Pearson was appointed as City boss following their relegation to League One in 2008 and led them straight back to the Championship as champions before leading City to the play-off semi-finals the following season.
Following City's penalty shoot-out defeat at Cardiff, optimism was high that City could again challenge for promotion but Pearson left to join Hull that summer after his relationship with chief executive Lee Hoos deteriorated.
Following the departure of former owner Milan Mandaric and Hoos, and the arrival of the Raksriaksorns, there seemed no obstacle to Pearson's return and following the departure of Eriksson three weeks ago, Pearson emerged as the man the owners wanted.
Pearson is expected to sign a contract, reportedly worth £1 million a year, and will be rewarded with a large bonus should he succeed in getting City into the Premier League.
