You are discounting attitude within that. That's the difference between Sven and Pearson/Walsh. The successful signings this year are mostly hungry youngsters or players with a point to prove. I get the feeling Pearson/Walsh do far more work into signings than judging them on ability, ie. fitting in the current side and having the right work ethic.
Spot on. A good example is Waggy. A player with limited ability but hunger and work ethic in abundance.

By the way, when Pearson was last here, were people not raving about Waghorn and Hobbs? For me it looked like we were going to struggle to hang onto Jack. I thought he looked a superb prospect.

I think that now is the time to become manically depressed: it may have proved illusion, but under Sven we were looking at marque signings and talking of ourselves as contenders. Now, Pearson seems to represent bitter reality and an attitude of, "we should be grateful for good old Waggy."

The trouble with illusions in professional football is that they tend to melt away by about Bonfire Night when people notice the league table.

I don't think its right to get carried away by Pearson's remarks about Waghorn. After all he's got to try to cheer up the poor b---er given he's injured and almost certainly down. I think the club needs a good dose of a reality check at this point. This is the correct antidote to all the hype. Over expectation needs to be doused to give the manager the time and space to build some solid platform.

Like Hazzman says, there was an interview with NP on the 08/09 season review DVD where he says "it's not just about playing ability when signing players, it's about the background checks of their personalities etc." I don't think that was true at all with SGE. It'll be a team without players who are as "proven" or "big named," but it'll be a team which will work a lot better I'm sure of that. It's like comparing Dave Jones' Cardiff side with big names to Malky Makay's current side.

As for Waghorn, I'd certainly have rather had him in the team for the first half of this season than Beckford. I hope Beckford comes good, I really do, but week after week I'm waiting for it and asking myself "how much longer do we have to wait hoping he will come good, while our season fritters away?" After a while, if he continues to non-perform we're just going to have to accept it and replace him, unfortunately the only options we have right now to do that with are Howard and Schlupp.

Whether or not Pearson can get any value out of Beckford will probably define the rest of the season. I doubt if we can 'swop' him for another proven striker and as you say we don't have a lot in reserve. If the outside chance of a play off spot slips away I would have thought that it might be best to give Schlupp the opportunity to play a more central striker role and build his experience with Howard as the impact substitute.

We are 5 points off the play offs. If Pearson can find his best side quickly and pick up a few points over Xmas then there's no reason why we cant comfortably gain a play off place. Especially if the board are willing to back him with a few quality signings.

Thank you! At last someone being positive. Reading most of the recent posts, I thought that Leicester fans were supposed to be grateful to be Championship mediocrity.
