I was not having a go at anybody on here, all I was saying is how easy it was with itunes

Not everyone has iTunes, and not everyone wants to use itunes.

If the person running the site wants to make it as widely available as possible it should be available using more common file formats, rather than force people to install new software.

If they want to record the files to mp3 format in addition to what they're doing now I'll be happy to host the files here.

I've just checked the site out. I haven't got itunes, nor do I want to. It tried to install quick time but I stopped it. If I install quick time does it come packaged with itunes?, if so then I miss out

I haven't heard it yet, but I used to enjoy Rob Hentons input on Radio Leicester, he is a fan who tells it like we all see it.

Looking forward to it.

Ah! Well that is why it sounds like the BBC. Never having lived in Leicester, I had never heard of Rob Henton.

Thanks for all the comments so far, both positive and negative.

bocadillo is right. The instructions for how to recieve the podcast were added as a direct result of the comments here. It's easy to forget that podcasting is still a relatively new medium and not everyone is up to speed, we were guilty of that. If anyone is having problems then by all means contact us and we'll be happy to help.

With regards to using mp3 as the format, currently (as already pointed out) the site is being developed and hosted using .mac, Garage Band and iWeb. As powerful as these tools are is does limit us in certain things, like having to post the podcast in AAC. We'll work on a solution to this in due course, as we're fairly new to the podcast scene as well.

Good Work :038:

I was not having a go at anybody on here, all I was saying is how easy it was with itunes, I subscribed to the podcast within minutes of Steven posting it up here, I doubt if they had altered the site with what had been said on here that quickly though
As for the right to say anything I have not got a problem with that at all. Say what you want and where you want, I suggest you re read the post later when you are sober.........:icon_bigg :icon_wink

When I'm sober? lol People that know me will know how funny that really is!

Yes, I have to admit that I thought you were being critical of everything that people had previously written but I now I realise that it should have only been read as you being critical about the downloading aspect. I'm glad that foxpodder has popped in to confirm that the instructions were added later - at least I was correct about that! :icon_wink

As a complete stranger to podcasts, I had no idea what was likely to happen should I click on 'subscribe'. What did in fact happen was that I got 'Page not Found' - and I did try it several times. I started to download and install iTunes but was put off when it started asking me for credit card details. :icon_conf

I shall now have a look at the podcastingnews site that foxpodder has provided the link to. Hopefully in the future a quarter of an hour or more of my journey to the Walkers can be taken up with me listening to future outputs.

BG - sorry I misunderstood.

foxpodder - looking forward to future editions and pleased that you are responsive to suggestions.

Steven/Jeff - why is this still in General Chat? About time there was a bit more efficiency around here. (do I really need to wink?)

If people aren't happy using iTunes that's fine. Foxpodder will work with all of the podcast software listed here - http://www.podcastingnews.com/topics/Podcast_Software.html

Just put the RSS feed into whatever podcast software you choose to use.

You don't need to install quicktime to use iTunes as far as I'm aware, however.

Welcome Foxpodder, listened to your first episode and I hope its the first of many. .....:038: :038: :038:

what did you use to listen BG?

I've tried to subscribe to the rss feed but just get 404 error
"The requested URL was not found on this server."

why wouldn't you want to use itunes:102:

my biggest gripe with it is the installation process that only offers American English as the default language preference.

There is no such language, American English is just an irritating accent.

That aside, people might not be able to install the software on their PC, limited HD space or perhaps a work PC with no administration rights.

it is normal in the podcasting world to provide a direct link to each individual sound file, whatever format you decide to podcast with, as well as a link to your RSS feed.

At the end of the day to get the podcast you will need podcasting software. I don't know of any examples of podcasters providing files as you say, the whole point of podcasting is to eliminate such annoyances for both the provider and the consumer.

fcukcov - as I mentioned earlier, we're looking into the mp3 situation.

Also you don't need an iPod to enjoy iTunes, it acts as an excellent music library and is very easy to use.
