Melton Fox

Dancing Queen
I've been preparing their home now for approx a month. They can kill a man in 8 seconds and should come in very handy :icon_bigg

I have just been and collected five this morning from a breeder in Kidderminster. These are my five;

Yellow-banded poison dart frog Dendrobates leucomelas

They are awesome, have always wanted frogs but have been told that if the moisture level drops for even an hour then they can just shrivel up and die. Was probably scare mongering from the guy but put me off a bit.

Nice setup aswell, is that a 3footer Melts?

It's a 4ft/260 ltr bow fronted Juwel Vison 260

I am running a waterfall over the big rock, this keeps the humidity at a decent level. As you have already realised, it's not too much to worry about.

I also spray a mist over it twice a day.

Oh yes, and it's ongoing
Then you'll understand "Why?"

Just seemed a little peculiar why anybody would want miniature poisonous liquid excreting amphibians anywhere near themselves or their children or pets etc.
Indeed, and I would question the parenting skills of anybody who do such a thing. Which of course, I'm sure you're not questioning mine.

Indeed not. Perish the thought, even if it were apt which it probably isn't :icon_wink

The frogs aren't poisonous in captivity, it was one of my concerns before embarking on the project/hobby. It's all to with their diet of insects in the wild that have eaten a certin food. This causes a chemical reaction only found in their natural habitat.

I am in contact with lots of "experts" in my daily work, and I did a lot of reading. I'm satisfied they are safe.

Are you going to get BG to lick one to make sure?

I must get my eyes tested, I thought this thread was about poison fart dogs.
Well that certainly sounds more interesting than frogs, have you got any literature?

More importantly, what have you named them?
Now, indirectly you've raised an issue there.

Pets or hobby?

Personally, I believe it's a hobby. It's about creating an environment and letting the livestock live within that and be as close to nature as possible.

Hobby = No names.

My children don't agree though. But I've told them the frogs will kill them if they try and give them a name :icon_wink
