My take on the game
Weale 7 - Looked steady and assured, made some decent saves including one top class insitinctive save. Was let down by poor defending for both goals.
Neilsen 6 - At times was steady and got forward to support the attack, but lacks quality in that area. Does seem to have a liking for going to ground and 3 or 4 occassions he dived into tackles which he missed and left himself out the game, needs to stand up more.
Powell 7 - The guy is an inspiration and model professional to the rest of the squad, defended well and supported the attack. Mattock would have done well to learn from him.
Morrison 6 - Hit and miss, didn't seem as comfortable or composed next to Tunchev as he was at the back end of last season. The step in class will be a massive learning curve.
Tunchev 5 - Granted he is working his way back from a bad injury but he looked miles off the pace, casual and nowhere near a first team return.
Adams 8 - Man of the Match, has improved massively, a real threat throughout the game and his work rate is excellent, very intelligent footballer and IMO should be an automatic choice. Best winger at the club IMO.
Oakley 6 - Worked tirelessly in midfield and tried to orchastrate our play but too often his passing was off the mark and moves broke down.
King 5 - Looks out of his depth against championship midfielders, no longer looks a goal threat and take that away and he offers very little else to the team. IMO we desperately need another centre midfielder to cover and support Oakley and Wellens because this guy ain't the solution.
N'Guessan 5 - Worked hard and kept trying but seemed intent on trying to beat his man with the same trick every time. Seems a one trick pony. Looks more like an impact player who can come off the bench.
Gallagher 6.5 - Linked up well with Fryatt. Good vision and movement. Just needs to get a goal. Offers a different alternative to Howard. Given a few more games I believe he and Fryatt will develop a decent partnership and understanding.
Fryatt 7 - Looked a constant threat, was sharp and intelligent. His work rate also seems to have improved. I actually now believe whatever offers we recieve we must do all we can to keep him.
Subs
Kermogant 5 - Not enough time to really get into the game. Had one header that flew well wide.
Dickov 4 - Looks finished at this level. Offers very little on the playing side.
Dyer 5 - No real impact and we had lost a bit of shape and resorted to the long ball by the time he came on.
Overall we played ok, the quality of some of the football was excellent, especially some of the pass and movement between the likes of Oakley, Adams, Gallagher and Fryatt.
Pearson has us playing some very eye catching football now and we have some intelligent footballers in our squad now. I would actually go as far to say at times we played too much football last night especially in the final third. Defensively we looked very suspect in the centre.
We started very well and looked like we could win very comfortably especially when we took the lead, but credit to Preston they forced their way back into the game, and I would say based on the second half they probably just deserved to shade it.
I thought in the last twenty minutes we ran out of ideas especially when Oakley went off. Andy King is nowhere near the quality required to compete at this level and IMO we must bring in a midfielder who can complement and compete with Oakley and Wellens because if we lose either one of them for any amount of time then we are ****ed.
