I recently drank the last bottle of 2004 Prieure de Lauran in my rack (anyone who knows where I can get hold of more will be suitably rewarded) and I'm trying a range of wines to find a suitable regular inexpensive replacement.
I have been quite pleased with the 2008 Cuvee de Midi from Tesco, which is again on offer, but have ventured into Asda to try their offerings. I had a case of their 2007 Chateauneuf de Pape for Christmas which is a little rough and could do with resting for a while(listen to me!).
Any road up, here goes.....
Last night was Asda Valpolicella 2009 12% IWC award winner (for what that's worth) £3.98 - A bit thin but no taste nasties. Mildly fruity so easy to glug, but really needs a strong flavoured food to accompany which the wife's bolognaise was not.
Tonight, Mont Tauch Fitou 2007 13.5% £4. Moderately fruity, hint of spice and good warmth (not surprising for at 13.5%). Again no nasty face spasms. Eaten with stilton and would buy again.
Tomorrow night, Robert Mondavi Cab Sauv.
