Robbie Keane is expected to sign for Leicester City in the next 48 hours.
Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has moved for the Republic of Ireland captain after missing out on Shane Long to West Bromwich Albion earlier this week.

The former England boss is trying to secure a £3million permanent deal for the 31-year-old who has been told he can leave White Hart Lane.
Blackburn have also shown interest in Keane but may be outbid by the big-spending Championship side.
Ambitious Leicester are also interested in Everton's Victor Anichebe and Bristol City's Nicky Maynard.

Sven-Goran Eriksson keen to bring Tottenham striker Robbie Keane to Leicester City
Leicester manager Sven Goran Eriksson is preparing a £3 million bid for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane to finally end his remarkable spending spree.

Eriksson will table an offer for Keane in the next 48 hours and is confident of persuading the Republic of Ireland international to join his Championship promotion mission.
Leicester have missed out on Reading’s Shane Long, who joined West Bromwich Albion in a £7 million deal, and seen three bids for Bristol City forward Nicky Maynard rejected.
And Eriksson is now ready to turn his attentions to Keane, 31, and offer him an escape route from his frustration at Tottenham Hotspur .
Keane spent a disappointing loan spell at West Ham last season and has been touted around rival Premier League clubs in an attempt to get his substantial £80,000 wages off the books.
Eriksson is prepared to offer the former Liverpool player a lucrative salary and take the transfer fees paid out for him in his career towards the £80 million mark. “I always said if we can get a striker with a good goalscoring record, we are going to try,” said Eriksson.

I wonder if this is a genuine move for Keane. Or are they trying to force Bristol City's hand on Maynard?

I would imagine genuine. Probably approaching several targets and making offers. But then again this is guesswork from me as I am as in the know as an Inuit's undercrackers.

Both stories start like they are in the know, but then quickly slip into re-hash mode of other stories. This one throwing 2 other well known names in hoping we buy one and the other making Sven quotes fit the story. A touch lazy...

sign.him.up

he would tear this league apart.
20 goals plus SURELY!

go on Sven.

I just can't see this happening, if it does quote me and shoot me down.

I've never particularly been a fan of Keane and predicted he wouldn't be a success at Liverpool, I would however welcome him with open arms. I just can't see one of the lesser Prem teams allowing him to slip.

This would be the missing piece of the puzzle - let's hope this one is for real as many papers seem to be running this one.....certainly capable of 20 goals in the Championship.

He plays too deep and has lost his confidence in the past two seasons... not for me pls...

:bang:

Surely we would be better off with Ian Hume?

Exactly why we should take a punt. A move from Sven could boost his confidence no end. I'm not a fan of Keane but I too would welcome him if he could do a job for us, and I think he could.

Could be a brilliant signing, although I think it would take a while to see the best of him. Quality player though, just needs to regain form. Would much prefer him to a lot of the other names being thrown about

agree 100%.
Once this guy hits form, he will be incredible.
Much better than Ched Evans.

I doubt if we are able to assume that Keane or anyone else we are likely to be able to sign "would tear this league apart" nor necessarily score 20 goals plus. This league still looks competitive and hard work to me.

That said, he would probably fill the missing gap; add a few to the gates and even with a serious wage bill plus the transfer fee could make the difference.

A class striker with an eye for goal. At 31 will not be around for ever, but 2-3 good years at 15 goals a season, Keane could be the spark that propels Leicester back into the Premiership

Also a great inspiration & motivator inside the Dressing Room for the talented young squad that Sven has assembled

We got two great seasons out of Les Ferdinand in the twilight of his career.... I'd love to see Robbie Keane given the chance to do the same.
