It will be cover though, plus some experience to add to the training ground.

We have several defenders one game away from a ban, if 2 of them managed to get booked in the same game now we could be very stretched, so adding someone in a position we are poorly covered anyway seems to make sense.

isn't it end of Feb when the one match ban for cards accrued is scrapped?
(unless players are on 10 yellows or something)

have they changed this from previous years then?

Heard it stated as end of march.

What I like about it is the way the board is prepared to back RK with some real cash.

Bringing in a 36 year old Plymouth reserve on loan requires real imagination.

I'm just trying to think where we could go next with this policy - for instance, MK Dons must have a few lads in their reserves who could also come in and provide a bit of cover.

Up the City!

There is a hell of a lot of negativity being posted not only on here but on the other forum, the last thing I read it was a short term month loan to provide cover, I think this signing is being blown out of all proportion, on the dark side Kelly is even starting to get some stick. I find it fairly unbelievablle too be honest. Kelly needs cover for the short term, I doubt Carlos, Cole or Maldini would have been available for that timescale.

You can tell that we lost on saturday !

Ian Harte? :102: :102:

I suppose the saving grace is that it is just a one month loan for us to assess him. I assume once we have done that he will be on the next train back to Plymouth.

Anybody can fire names about, but the truth is we dont know the budget available to Kelly, whether Harte would even be available on a short term loan, who else we had approached or anything like that.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water, IMO Brevett is certainly not the worst signing, and remember it is very short term and as cover, I could understand the negativity if we had paid a fee and given him a long term deal but we havent.

We need some experience and Brevett will provide that, lets give him a chance before writing him off.

For fcuks sake view this signing for what it is. So what Brevetts best days are behind him and he not what you would call quality.

A bit of cover to get us out of a whole, thats all. Rob Kelly isnt Micky Adams, Rufus will be here for the end of the season tops and just gives us a bit of cover in what is still a relegation fight.

Where else were we going to look for a player!?! No body of any real note would be available and we certainly dont need another wet behind the ears youngster at the minute.

We needed an LB because Nissa will move into the middle if there are any further suspensions with the other CB's.

I wasnt having a go Stevo, all I was trying to say is that we dont really know all the circumstances behind this move, Kelly may well have targetted a number of left backs that were not available or affordable. I just feel that there is a hell of a lot of negativity being posted and IMO it is unjust and unwarranted.

I think the major problem here are peoples negative and unrealistic attitudes towards the signing.

At the end of the day "people's attitudes" don't matter....all that does matters is how he performs but if he's not good enough to get near the Plymouth side, on what grounds is he likely to make a difference here?

I think the reasons surrounding his absence for the Plymouth side were related to disciplinary issues off the football pitch not his actual form and also related to the change in manager.

He might not end up playing a single game for us but at least he gives us an extra option in defence should we need it. If no one else gets injured or suspended then he wont play but if they do hes there.

Also look at Gilbert. We generally thought he was rubbish. He went to Wednesday and from talking to fans in the city I live in they all think hes the bollox. Thats the way it works sometimes.

But we can only sign players on loan at the moment. He is quite obviously a short term fix as cover until the end of the season. Seems eminently sensible to me, and will not cost us a great deal in terms of wages.

totally agree, he's an adequate player and capable enough for our goal this season - AVOID RELEGATION. He will not be here next season as the breif will change then. support the guy, hes in a city shirt now. :056:
