Two of Saddams aides have been hanged today.

One of them, had their head removed from the shoulders  as they dropped.

An Iraqi government film shows two of Saddam Hussein's aides, who were executed today, hanging side by side in hoods and orange jumpsuits, it is reported.

Barzan Ibrahim al Tikriti, Saddam's half-brother, and Awad Hamed al Bander, head of Iraq's Revolutionary Court, were hanged at midnight UK time.

The video is reported to show the body of Barzan lying headless on the floor below the gallows.

He was decapitated by the hanging and his severed head is seen several metres away.

The video, shown to journalists in Baghdad, is reported to show the pair trembling with fear as they stand at the gallows with hoods on their heads.

The execution was conducted on the same gallows where Saddam was hanged December 30.

The government said the film would not be made public.

Official footage of Saddam There was no repeat of the taunting that marred the hanging of Saddam.

"The convicts were not subjected to any mistreatment," governemt spokesman Ali al Dabbagh said, describing the beheading by the rope as a rare mishap.

"Their rights were not violated. There was no chanting."

The bodies of both men have arrived in Tikrit for burial.

Government adviser, Bassam al Husseini, said the damage to the body of Barzan was "an act of God".

The pair were originally due to be hanged on the same day as Saddam.

They had been found guilty along with Saddam of the killing of 148 Shi'ite Muslims in 1982 in the village of Dujail following a failed assassination attempt against the former Iraqi dictator.

Last week, Iraq's President Jalal Talabani urged the government to delay the executions.

I understand Saddam was offered a get-out from hanging if he was willing to undertake some onerous work of a charitable nature.

However he replied that, on balance, he would prefer to die with his dignity intact.

So the way was left clear for Curbishly to take over as West Ham manager instead
