It happens on aeroplanes all the time.

And on sunbeds beside Mediterranean pools.
But not at events where the tickets have all been purchased through one single agent over a very short period of time

I have hesitated to join in as I am not a ST holder, and however cheap they were, I would not be, as I am able to attend only a limited number of matches each season (sometimes I have been to more away than home).

When I buy a ticket for a match, or any other event, I make the purchase on the same basis as any other purchase - does the price look reasonable set against my desire to buy? I go to all sorts of things (theatre, cinema, concert, sporting events.....) where I know full well that others there will have paid a variety of different prices (or nothing at all). Very occasionally I am one of those with a promotional or complimentary ticket.

Same when I get on a plane or train - other passengers will have paid all sorts of prices for their seats. And people in shops get discounts that I don't qualify for.

It's called life, business, the market, whatever.

As far as ST holders are concerned, they have been assured by the club that, despite the various vouchers, discounts etc, over the season they will still come out ahead, as well as having the various other advantages it bestows. If that were not the case then there would be reason to grumble - at least for those for whom price is the main factor in choosing a season ticket.

And don't forget, there is a hidden cost for most people in buying match by match - booking fees, postage, phone calls, your fares/ fuel plus hourly rate for standing in a queue or whatever. And perhaps even more important.... you might end up sitting next to me.

The Parable of the Football Supporters at the Walkers

Matthew 20:1-16

or otherwise:

in the case of LCFC though, the club specifically said that you would be better off buying the ST. i'm not sure a parable about a vineyard owner selling a bunch of people some wine in advance to last them through the whole year, after assuring them that this would be the best way to purchase it, and subsequently selling it on cheaper to other folks because it was his wine, would have gone down so well with the disciples would it?!

Well mine cost £250 - including the 15% discount for buying early. That works out at £10.86 per match. Plus we got a cheap deal for the Villa game. I haven't had to pay for calls to the ticket office, trek down there, pay a booking fee for each ticket, postage , fuel, etc - and I always know where and who I'll be sitting near. So on balance all of those factors make me feel better off ... no hassle.

I wonder whether this has also been clouded by other issues gently nibbling away at the benefits, when I first bought my ST I had an interest free credit scheme to buy it. My last one cost me an extra tenner to pay by post dated cheque. I also had my first cup game included, now I have to pay for it. I used to get 10% discount in the club shop, now that's gone.

So, just ignoring the free/cheap tickets issue, the overall benefits of my ticket have been eaten away at season by season.

The tickets issue, i feel, just nibbles a bit more away. The club has always said that it relies on its season ticket holders as the lifeblood of the club, well surely it should be doing everything in its power to keep in their good books. We have seen the number of STHs dwindle year upon year and I suspect that next year will be no exception. Lets just hope that when (if) MM comes on board, that he will realise that the current setup is alienating the very people that the club needs.

Just as an aside, I entered a competition to win a half season ticket (for my brother in law), and whilst I didn't win, I was phoned and asked if I wanted to buy a Barnsley ticket for £8 (adult block E1)....I declined the invitation.

My brother in law is a Spurs fan who can't afford a ST for White Hart Lane, he has been with me a few times to the Walkers (especially last year when I had two STs). He enjoys watching a match and so has bought a half ST in the seat next to mine. Getting him into the ground and watching a game or two, has got him on board as a STH, and assuming that they don't go silly with the pricing next year, he will probably renew it.

Right, there it is, my first post.

Maximum discount was only 5% this season.

you forget the games where it costs £25 then?

over the course of a season the STHs still get better value for money.

Top post, welcome to the mad house

Interesting to read that some of the same people who thought 35,000 was not that much money in another thread are the same people who are incensed at not getting good value for money from season tickets... :icon_roll

It's like the situation with Mexican immigrants over here - some of the rednecks say they're lazy... the same people then say they're taking all our jobs! :icon_eek:

The comparison is a little harsh perhaps, but the point that we always tend to see things through a particular narrow tunnel is well made. It applies to us all in varying degrees, which is why, as a non-STH, I was a little reluctant to join in & perhaps be seen to be telling other people what they should feel about their own money.

Unlike, of course those who, a few weeks ago, were telling the shareholders they should give their shares away for nothing.

This issue is in no way shape or form related to to income v outgoings. It's an issue of fairness.

I am one of the people you mention from the other thread. Wether your income is £5,000, £15,000 or £50,000 equality is still the same. Income has nothing to do with this subject

I think this is the general crux of the annoyment to me. The pricing issue is a valid point, but like Boc pointed out we agreed the price at the time. The fact that each year they keep taking free stuff away is a bit of a disgrace.

Also, altho A-Z joked about it with Johnson and Low, the fact that they said the ST money would be used to fund the managers wishes, we were then told that getting 4 FREE TRANSFERS was more than the board had budgeted for.

They have to pay the players wages, but still it does not add up

To be fair, McAully and to a lesser extent ( one hopes! ) Low would not have been strictly speaking " free ", as I'm sure we encouraged them to run their contracts down so we wouldn't have to pay their clubs a fee - a lump sum payment would have been made to the players in lieu of a fee because of this.

Exactly, its not 'OK' to rip people off just because they earn more than that average salary.

there is usually a signing on fee anyway.
