We've had second screens a few years at Brann (Bergen) Stadion. I don't see a problem with it. Apart from when it's not working. They use them for replays, highlights from last round, interviews and of course the annoying advertising.

wouldnt want it on mobile phoned instead.

Is it just me, I don't have a fecking clue what this is going on about. What is a second screen? Isn't this the same as the big screens we've already got then? Who the feck watches the game on a mobile when they're there?

Am I in an alternate universe?

Thank Gordon someone else has no idea either! I thought I was pretty tech savvy but apparently not??

I'll be honest I'm not sure what this means either. Some more detail would be useful.

'Second screens' refers to the way people tend to be using their mobile phone, laptop or tablet while watching TV for example (the second screen being the mobile etc) - a lot of companies try to produce content to get involved in that second screen activity. So for example, X-Factor will have extra content online during the show because they know people will be tweeting about it during.

Obviously same goes a lot for football.

In a stadium it's not a second screen as such because your primary 'screen' is actually watching the game in front of you, but the principle would still be the same.

And to answer the original question, no, I think it would be a horrible idea to have second screen content available at games. We spend too much time on our phones as it is and miss what's going on around them. Encouraging people to sit their with tablets/mobiles out during the game would just kill atmosphere at matches even more. You pay a lot of money to go and watch your team play - watch what is out there in front of you, not the phone in your lap.

Thanks Graz for your explanation, I couldn't have it described it any better. I came up with this project idea as this technology is being introduced slowly into Premier League stadiums with City and Liverpool leading the way. However, I have found that there has been little consultation with what fans actually want from these services and this is where you come in.

I don't agree with it, but think it's going to happen as companies push in game betting.

I'm sure we'll get replays and match stats, but the aim will be to sell things. We'll be offered shirts with the name of the player who has just scored on the back and the odds on him going on to complete a hat trick etc.

Will the referees association (or whatever its called) be happy to have replays, especially if it shows that they have got the decision wrong? They are under immense pressure as it is and surely something like this would make things worse (although saying that, it might be a way to weed out the crap refs).

I suspect that there will be restrictions on what they show. As it is, the big screens aren't allowed to replay contentious issues such as dodgy penalties, disallowed goals etc. I imagine any online content would bd subject tonight same rules.
