Should football be entertaining?

And what makes you think we will play more "entertaining football" in the Premier League? :102:

Of course I'd rather see Leicester be a good Premier League team than in League One, but that's because I want to see Leicester be successful, that's why I follow them, not because by rights Leicester would be playing more "entertaining" football in the PL.

If you don't want to see your side be successful then what is the point of attaching emotional ties to a team?! You can watch "entertaining" football without supporting someone.

In fact, surely the whole notion of supporting a team takes away from truly enjoying football as entertainment as there is bound to be the added emotion involved in winning and losing?! So if you purely to enjoy good football, the idea of supporting a team makes no sense.

As BG says I can't even fathom why anyone would rather see the football team they support lose and play good football than see them win, what is the ****ing point of following a team, much less a Second Division team if that is the case?! if you want to see good football you'd go and watch Arsenal or Barcelona and not bother if they win or lose and not cheer when they score, but just go and enjoy the passing football.

You are wasting your time PR, they will not be convinced. They do not understand the meaning of supporting a team.

Surely entertaining football does not just consititute how we play. It is also about the opposition. I'd sooner see the likes of Fabregas and co. coming to the Walkers than somebody from league one.

I would also argue that Premier league football will always be more entertaining than league one. The pace is much greater and the skills on show are much better. Even if your team are constantly on the back foot, excitement is generated from not knowing whether you can hang on or whether you can snatch a goal on the break. Whilst promotion from league one was good i never considered it to be a great achievement. I remember feeling more elated after beating United at Old Trafford than I did after an entire season that resulted in promotion from league one.

Maybe we are entering a linguistic argument: football should unquestionably be entertaining: now, what does being entertaining mean? For some people, attractive football is entertaining and, for others, winning fits the bill.

Some people really need to ask themselves if they are even Leicester City fans. Crazy thread.

What would you sooner see?

Leicester losing half of their games in the premier and staying up?

Or:

Leicester winning league one by a country mile?

I would sooner see my team compete at the highest possible level even if that meant we lost more games. Will the league one season live in my memory for a long time for all the victories and success - no. What does live in my memory is the premier years - some brilliant victories but some fantastic games where we didn't win - arsenal 3-3, newcastle 4-3....I could go on.

Why do you keep saying this? You are missing the point of this thread entirely. For the 57th time: of course I'd rather see Leicester in the Prem than League One because that means we are more successful, I watch Leicester because they want to be successful. It has nothing to do with good football which was the point of this thread.

Those games you mentioned were from a Martin O'Neill side who played very pragmatic football, a long way short of good or entertaining football.

Of course I'd rather see us draw 3-3 with Arsenal than Huddersfield, but the only reason a 3-3 draw with Arsenal is any better than a 3-3 draw with Huddersfield is because expectations are going to be much lower going in to the game, which makes the win better and more iconic. Again, it has absolutely nothing to do with how good the football is on the pitch, it's simply about expectations.

Also, that 4-3 defeat you are only saying was great through nostalgia, I can guarantee that absolutely every Leicester fan straight after that game gutted that they had thrown away a 3-1 lead, I bet not one of them came out and said "even though we lost that, I enjoyed it."

Besides, this is irrelevant, camberwell fox was talking about the style of play. I quote:

I am happy with the new style and what (I think) he is trying to achieve and applaud his ethics. In my opinion football is in the entertainment industry and the most attractive (and yes successful) teams fill their stadia week on week. So, should we not be patient and get behind Sousa in what he is trying to do?

Personally, I couldn't give one shit about how we play, football can be appreciated in its attractiveness by neutrals, but as a supporter the emotional connection in winning is what matters.

Tbh, Jeff, I was just exaggerating to make a point.

One of THE worst feelings ever after a game.....and that was without all the utter shite we had to put up with from those 'wonderful' Geordies on the way back to our coaches...you would've thought it had been their side that had thrown away a 3-1 lead the way some of their feckwits behaved outside the stadium towards women and kids.

Wot he said.

Thank you to some of you for actually reading my opening statement and understanding what I meant.

I thought I was being clear!?

Just before someone picks me up on something...nowhere did I say that winning is not important.
