I say if you can go to the doctors, you can go to work you work shy feckers......

What happens if the boss is also ill and has a day on the sick, and that day falls on your ****ing pay day?

I must admit there are very few times I have been too ill to go to work but then again I only sit at a desk all day.

When I worked for someone,I'd have to be very ill before I wouldn't go to work.I'd rather be at work with the flu than sat at home bored to tears. If you pay people for being off sick then a good few are going to take advantage-FACT:102:

My company run a system known as the Bradford factor which is
no.of times x no.of times x no.of days. This score triggers off levels of warnings. It does punish people who have a lot single days but then they are the most likely to be taking the piss. As for the previous post on sick notes we do actually require one after three days which the employee has to pay for then he/she is reimbursed.

Probably about 2/3 a year I think. To be honest most of them I could have gone in, I knew not much was going on though so I stayed in bed. If stuff had to be done and I could go in, I would.

Longest I have been off in 11 years of work was a whole week and that was with a herniated disc in my back. I couldn't even walk and had to piss in a bottle.... I think that's classed as not well enough to go in ha.

I didn't need to get a certificate or anything, they know I work my balls off for the company so i'm trusted.

It works very differently over here. If you don't show up, you don't get paid a penny, it's that simple. If the idea of being off for a long time bothers you, then you get insurance to cover it. If not, you wing it and hope you don't break a leg.

And you know what? It sounds harsh, but it works. There's hardly any people taking "sickies" just because they can't be arsed to go to work that day. Which, let's face it, covers about 95% of the sick days taken in Britain.

Not sure about the stat, but we are a nation of lazy gits and scrounging spongers

But what happens if you do genuinely get sick?
Do you end up a homeless?

If you haven't got insurance, can't get another job to do while you are sick, can't get a line of credit, and it lasts long enough - then, yes. Harsh indeed. Arizona is a "right to work" state. I don't really understand what that means, apart from it seems that employers can get away with pretty much anything and the employee has the right to work but that's about the only right.

There are still a few lazy trailer trash tossers who do pull sickies all the time, but of course they get nowhere because they don't earn much, and eventually they will be fired (you can actually be fired for being genuinely sick as well!).

The general idea, I suppose, is you reap what you sow. It's obvious there are far fewer scrounging feckers playing the system here than back home, but it's not a big issue because in America the idea of a socialist society is about as welcome as a communist one, so the majority are happy with the current situation.

I'm glad I'm self employed so I don't have to worry about it - in the event that I get sick, I'm pretty much fecked whichever way you look at it! :icon_wink

What time is it for you Desert ? late afternoon:102:

Mountain time:confused:

The American time-zones from east to west are Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific at 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 hours behind GMT. Alaska is another hour behind and Hawaii is another hour behind that.

not had a day off sick since the day after Stevie Claridge scored the winner in the league cup final

and even then, i turned up at 6am, but i was a zombie

Nobody ever knows whether I'm here or not!

If I'm not in my office people assume I'm taking a coffee break, or in the library, or giving a lecture.

3 days in total this year - one of them I wasnt sick (the boss had pissed me off), the other two I had acute tonsillitis.
