A good positive response.

But I can't say it was a good decision until we know what the offer was

e.g. If it was £5 mill, it was a terrible decision. I suspect it was no more than half a mill in which case it was a good decision

I do think it is irresponsible for the club to keep drawing attention to it though

I would be interested to hear what this significant figure is. We could be in danger of over estimating him and losing any chance of a sizeable sum.

If we are selling, sell him early to buy a few hours

I think the club may be aware of interest from the premiership and are possibly holding out for a higher bid. I would not be at all surprised to see Stearman move on today

I doubt they'd have made the statement they did if they were expecting him to go, they'd look like idiots if they said that and then sold him a few hours later.

Not if they recieve what they percieve to be a 'silly' price, look at Connolly last year, it was continually denied by the club that Wigan were interested then on deadline day he was gone.

They did say we'd signed McAteer though:102:

If they receive a silly offer for him I'm sure they'd accept it. But I don't think they're expecting a silly offer, if they were they wouldn't have put that statement on the website.

I do think it would be detrimental to his career to move at this stage. I don't think he would want to go just yet anyway.

That would only encourage a lower offer has the buyer knows we are looking to sell. If the buyer is aware how important to us he is and that we don't want to sell, they know their offer has to be significant. They also know that EVERY player in the whole world is for sale

I agree Melt's, there is nothing in that statement that catergorically states that Stearman is unavailable at any price. The phrases used have been very carefully selected so that were the club to sell Stearman they in fact would not appear foolish, it is called spin.

We are building for the future, can be spun around so that were the club to agree a fee they could then state that the money would help develop the squad further and with re-investment it is indeed building for the future.

true melts very true every player has a price tag but in city's case we have always been a selling club and if the right money came in for him he would go ,all we can do is hope the money we do get most of it goes to RK and not some lame excuse by the club that we need the money for this and that like we have done in the past

Another slant on this, normally it is the potential buying club who will leak news of a failed bid, in an attempt to unsettle a player, however usually when it is the selling club it is an attempt to increase interest and to try and hike up the price by having an auction.

I would imagine that there have been enquiries from other clubs, possibly in the premiership and that by announcing that a bid has been rejected it alerts these clubs that if they are interested now is the time to make a concrete offer.

Theres no way they can let him move on today after than statement regardless of the bid involved.
You can't imagine this then Duzza?

"We were desperate to keep hold of Richard, our long was to term goal to build the team around him. However, Richards desire to further his career and play Premiership football combined with the huge sums of money involved meant that the best decision was to allow Richard to leave. We are sorry to see Richard leave and wish him all the best for the future."

.

Every player at the club has a price that the club would sell at
