You'd expect Birmingham are going to want to make some profit on the lad, am I right in thinking that they paid £500,000 for him? £1.75m for the pair would be a good deal IMO - perhaps slightly better for them than us..

But the fact that they sent the email after 7:30PM, for a press conference at 9AM the next day, suggests they don't want many people to turn up.
I realise most news organisations work 24 hours a day, but I'm sure the local hacks who would be interested in something like this are more likely to work 9-5 and might not get to hear about it until it's already started.
