Whilst it’s literal meaning is replacement or following on, there is the implication that the previous incumbent enjoyed success!Michael Carrick is being put forward as a potential successor

Don’t be ****ing daft. We’d all be thrilled. Would be a great achievement. Hope it happens. If he went on to win a cup this season, and finish top half of the table, it wouldn’t be enough for some people.
The **** you on about? If he went on to win a cup this season, and finish top half of the table, it wouldn’t be enough for some people.

Obviously you’re not one of the ‘some people’Don’t be ****ing daft. We’d all be thrilled. Would be a great achievement. Hope it happens.
I’d be surprised if there were many people.Obviously you’re not one of the ‘some people’
Still someI’d be surprised if there were many people.

I honestly think that saying stuff like this demeans the point you’re making. This also applies to the “other side” of the ongoing, tiresome, debate. Some would still moan that Ricardo didn’t play in the cup final winning performance.

Before the season started, the aim was not to get relegated.
Many seemed to accept this.
When we didn’t get the points deduction, people’s mindset switch has been flipped.
We have NO devine right to beat anybody.
We have to re-establish ourselves in this league, so our priority still remains the same, survival.
Despite what we, the supporters think, we weren’t such an attractive option for a football manager.
[before anyone says, that is not a play on words].
Steve Cooper, is here, and so far so good. Yes it could be better, but it could also be a lot worse.
That’s football for you!
It's the irony that gets me. All those ****s moaning last season when we were winning and top of the league now saying shit like this.Well there actually wouldn't be any
****'s sake, must be Wibble o'clock when all the ****wits come out to play
It’s a sad state of affairs when some supporters don’t want the team, they supposedly support, to win, because whom the manager is.I’d argue the majority of fans just want the club to win, regardless of the manager. Everyone certainly cheered the win last week and hopefully we’ll get to cheer lots more.
