I am not a coach, but with Crouch's obvious heading talents, would not have someone been detailed to stay glued goalside of him to deny him any chances?

Harry did, but Fuchs blocked him off.
Crouch did well.
If Fuchs hadn't of turned his head away, he may well have blocked it.

On another day we could have won this 4-1 . We are really only 2/3 players away from a decent side. Puell is not as negative as I first feared. Nacho is nowhere near as good as I thought he was and Slimani would have been a better replacement. In general I think we are kind of round about where we should be.

This whole 'let's drop Harry Maguire' stuff is baffling to me. He wasn't great yesterday, I concede, but he has been consistently good for the most part this season. If you look on Squawka.com. they have him as our highest rated player of the season so far by quite a way (link here).

The PL website, whilst showing he has slightly fewer successful tackles than Morgan, does have him making twice as many interceptions. Morgan has 3 more clearances than Maguire whilst Maguire has far more headed clearances. Maguire also has far more 'duels won' than Morgan and way, way more recoveries (86 to 26). Maguire has 3 assists, has made nearly twice as many passes as Morgan and has scored a goal. Interestingly, the Premier League site has both of them making zero errors leading to a goal. In discipline terms, he has zero yellow cards, zero red cards and has committed only 8 fouls whereas Wes has 2 yellows, no reds and has committed 12 fouls.

I know that statistics only tell a fraction of the story but I just don't see this 'bomb scare' type player that some on here are suggesting he is. Neither do most pundits, the England management team or many, many other fans. Perhaps now CS has gone and Mahrez is playing well some folk are desperate to find a new pantomime villain.

Like I wrote previously, the problem is that Fuchs is so far out of position sometimes that Maguire and Morgan are having to cover for him time and time again. They are also having to deal with cross after cross because Fuchs is incapable of stopping them from raining into the box. The weak link is Christian Fuchs and although his replacement isn't exactly great at defending either, I'd be putting him in next game without any doubt whatsoever.

Completely agree Pop.

If you look at their first goal Fuchs is in no mans land, 10 or so yards forward of where he should be and this leaves Magiire marking two. I watched him yesterday closely on the telly and he was stand out dreadful.

I wouldn't describe that as interesting, I'd describe it as excellent evidence that defensive weakness isn't accurately accounted for by these stats. Irrespective of whether you blame Maguire or Fuchs for either or both goals yesterday, the fact that the stats you reference blame neither player surely demonstrates their ineffectiveness?

Nor do those stats lay any blame on Maguire for the Huddersfield goal for example. It is difficult to know how it is possible to say that his poor defending wasn't to blame but there you go.

I don't have anything against Maguire at all. In fact I recall raving about him in his early matches. However, he's been overplaying and been too weak in his physical challenges for some time now. Critically, he is also awful at marking his man at set pieces. It is costing us goals and points. If he sorts these issues out, great. But I'm focusing on it because nobody else appears to be.

You also go on about creating a new pantomime villain and then you do exactly the same with Fuchs. I have some sympathy for Fuchs being asked to do a role (effectively left wing back) which isn't really his strength. And when he pushes on as encouraged to do, he gets slaughtered for not being at left back.

I dread to think of the stick Chilwell would have gotten had he played like Fuchs did yesterday, maybe he needs to start posting funny videos on twitter to get some onside, the sooner he displaces Fuchs the better

Wait - people are looking at website stats to tell them if those two goals were defensive cock ups or not

Seriously, this is actually happening in the real world ??

Maybe they should have an extra column "who does Brown Nose blame?

Dripping with irony surely?

Except, nobody did that. At all. Thanks for the input though.

Do you think there's a reason why very few people 'appear to be focussing on it' except you? Maybe because it is yet more drivel?

As for all that nonsense at the end, criticising someone for real, evidential errors isn't making them a pantomime villain. The term seems to be lost on some.

2-2 is the kinda result I would expect against Stoke. We played well, let our guard down a bit and they took their chances. Happy result and the team are starting to look up a bit.

One thing I have realised though is - 1 win and a draw puts us in 12th...We were ever in a bad position to be sacking people ? guess we will never know

Which is precisely what people have been doing with Maguire - pointing out the real evidential errors that he has made in the last three or four games.

That's not making him a pantomime villain at all - perhaps you might consider what terms actually mean before you use them in a desperate attempt to make other posters' opinions look inferior to your own

You really shouldn't try to involve yourself in every discussion with such vehmency in attack when you have no idea how to put together the simplest logistical post. Your habit is to jump up and down and show us how much more than anyone else you know whilst being childishly pseudo-angry with everything. What you 'think' I am 'trying to do' is in fact inconsequential to me really as you've proven yourself to be incapable of writing anything of any merit ever. Instead you just respond to posts in your normal witless and boring way.

If you'd bothered to read my post correctly I was addressing those folk who have said he's been awful since the first 3 or 4 games of the season, not for the last 2. Still, I'm sure you'll have a response to that too, which will be more of the same attempted aggressive nonsense.

Be careful. That's the kind of fair and open thinking that will have toys flying out prams at a rate of knots around these parts.
