Yesterday was the day a number of people tried to get their cars out or at least the drive cleared.

They cleared the part of the A57, about 2 miles from me, of the 200 odd HGV's and cars that had been stuck there.

It has snowed again overnight -only a small covering.
My daughter eventually got home having stayed at 2 different cast members houses since Tuesday.

Where we live there are still no buses or trains and people were mostly walking. although more and more are driving now as the main roads are a bit clearer, but the side roads are still very difficult to negotiate. But care is needed to avoid parked/abandoned cars and pedestrians who have been using the road to walk rather than through 2 foot of snow on the pavement.

Got out taking photos on my mobile last week whilst the snow was thick.

Bit of a thaw today still icy this morning though, both me and my wife slipped over at separate times.

Everyone will be delighted to know I've taken a million photos in the past few weeks as I'[ve toured around Arizona with my mum and dad. Here are some of the first ones, taken with my new phone rather than a 'proper' camera.

This is Biosphere 2 near Tucson, a scientific experiment a bit like the Eden Project.

Carr Canyon in the Huachuca mountains, looking out to the town of Sierra Vista. The mountains in the distance are in Mexico.

Old Tucson film studios, where loads of famous TV and films have been made such as Tombstone, McLintock, El Dorado, High Chaparral, Bonanza, 3.10 to Yuma, Little House on the Prairia, The Three Amigos, Stagecoach, Billy the Kid, Young Guns, Terminal Velocity, Magnificent Seven, etc.

Surprisingly good fun and as you'd expect, really tacky.

Is the Bio Sphere worth a visit? I'll be out your way on the 22nd :)

If you want to see a bobcat there is one that my missus sees quite regularly down at Agua Caliente.

Errrr.... sort of worth it. I liked it, but I'm a desperate old hippy who loves stuff like giant greenhouses. It's probably worth it for the building alone, which is an impressive piece of architecture. The tour itself isn't all that to be honest.

I went to a friend's house in the foothills of NW Tucson a few weeks back with my mum and dad. It was getting dark and I wanted to show my dad the view from their back garden, which overlooks Pima Wash and the Tucson Mountains. I took him outside and said "wow, look at that" pointing to the view. My dad said "yeah, you're right, that's not a normal cat, is it" pointing to the bobcat sat right in front of us! :icon_bigg

I might have to check the Agua Caliente beast out as well, though. You can't see too many wild cats...

Grrr. Even the 'phone' pics are better than my camera pictures!

More phone photos....

I've posted an almost identical photo in the past, looking out over the famous fence marking the US/Mexico border. This one is taken with the 'proper' camera.

Sandhill Cranes in the Sulphur Springs Valley, the top three at Whitewater Draw, the bottom one at Willcox Twin Lakes. The valley has one of the largest wintering flocks of Sandhill Cranes in the world, last year reaching a record 40,000. Not so many this year, but still an impressive spectacle.

Last few for now, I promise.

Crissal-Thrasher-Slaughter-Ranch-10-1124-04.jpg
Crissal Thrasher, a scarce and difficult bird to see, so I'm pleased to get any sort of photo.

Lark Bunting.

Coati-Cave-Creek-Ranch-10-1123-02.jpg
White-nosed Coati at dusk. A rare and secretive animal, sometimes refered to as a Coatimundi, which roughly translated is the Spanish term for Male Coati. Only the second one I've ever seen in Arizona so I'm quite pleased with this photo.

I should get (finally) a proper DSLR in January, then I'll give you a run for your money Des, you'll have endless shots of the wild chav, the elusive homeless bum and my cat.
