Arizona is bigger than Britain and has about 7 million people. The vast tracts of wilderness are amazing.

A macro lens is top of my list but I've never managed to get around to buying one. I think I will soon though. But for now, I'm afraid I'm clueless.

Went with this in the end. Tried it and the 60mm Canon and the extra focal length and cheaper price made it a no brainer. Plus all the recommendations were for this over the Canon on image quality as well. Will see when it arrives.

That looks nice. Looking forward to seeing the results...

Common Gallinule, which was until a few weeks ago considered the same species as Moorhen, the very similar bird you can find on Leics ponds and rivers. But now it's been 'split' into two species. Poor thing.

Quick warning for those who don't like snakes... you know what's going to happen...

Pond Slider, an introduced Asian species that can also be found at places like Groby Pool. In the UK it's known as Red-eared Terrapin.

Loads more to come from July and August...

Forgot to add a few scenic shots, taken with my phone.

I've finally been able to see some of the devastation from this summer's wildfires at first hand. This is Miller Canyon, with what used to be a 1000 tree orchard in the foreground.

Ash-Canyon-11-0705-05.jpg
This is the view from my friend's house in Ash Canyon. The fire came to within a few feet of her house and only a very brave fire crew and a direct hit of fire-retardent slurry from a helicopter saved the day.

Walnut-Creek-11-0624-09.jpg
Thankfully many places were unaffected by the fires. This is the beautiful Walnut Creek in the White Mountains, only a few miles from Arizona's largest ever wildfire (which was more than half a million acres!) and yet you'd never know anything was wrong.

OK, that really is it... for now.
