Its a contact sport, I know that as does Mendes. Thatcher plays hard but if you don't like it, don't get on the field.

it as sending off in anybodys book if you dont believe that then you are deliberately courting controversy

I'm just passing my opinion, looks to me like two players colliding and one of them coming off worse. Who's upset you you miserable fecker??

Should have ben Sent Off,banned for 5 matches and fined by his Club and the FA...but not charged by the Police etc.

if that attack had happpened in the street he wouldve been charged etc why should it be any different on a football pitch he was well out of order the intent was there

:icon_lol: im not upset :102: i watched the clip on news at ten on tv last night the first angle never really gave much away but the second angle showed he made no attempt whatsoever to play the ball and deliberately smashed the player in the boat race with his elbow.

Because it is A Football field and it can never be proved that there was intent,if you go and whack someone in the face in the street its obvious there was intent.Charge Thatcheer and you'll be charging 30 players every weekend.

i agree HF :icon_eek: the police should keep out ,but he should have walked and recieved a lenghty ban

yeah alright you can have that one..dont think 5 matches is long enough though :102:

Maybe one of those things, but Thatcher showed the intent to seriously injure someone.
He looked at Mmendes, raised his elbow at the last second and thrust it into his face. There is no place for that in football and he should b punished. He cannot be allowed to get away with what he did as it sets a precedence.

It's a good job Mendes wasn't running at the same speed in the opposite direction, that's all I can say!

Well Di Canio got 3months for pushing the ref, so it seems strange that Thatcher is getting only 5 matches for practically assulting someone

Just shows that refs are pampered!

The police should stay out and let the league deal with this. If the police were involved then the likes of Martin Johnson would spend more time in prison than they would on a rugby pitch. There dosen't seem to be a problem with ice hockey players knocking six bells out of each other. As for the incident it was very poor by Thatcher and imo he should serve something like a 10 game ban.

Crazy that the police are involved. If thats the case then every slide tackle, shoulder barge, or challenge from behind etc should all be criminal offences. You do these things to somebody on the street you'll get locked up
