Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded spring/summer 2019 rumours thread.

I think he could do a job for us at times. But not as first choice or for all occasions.

If we're expecting a game to be back to the walls and defending deep then that's where Morgan is useful I think.

But if we want to play further up and expansive football from the back, Morgan and Evans would get caught out terribly.
To be fair on point one, so would Maguire. He wasn’t exactly rapid.
I’ve said before but it bears repeating - Morgan’s quality depends almost entirely (IMO) on who he is playing with. He doesn’t work with Maguire as well as he does with Evans because he’s not always aware of where he is.

My opinion on Maguire is he’s a good player. But defensively he definitely isn’t 100% yet and it a bit too Martin Skrtel esque to be a true great as VVD has done. He’ll improve the United team, but he’s no Vidic or Ferdinand.

We’ll miss him, but 85m (55 after Hull’s cut if you believe the mill) is more than a fair softener to the blow.
Can’t agree with anyone that says we haven’t had United’s pants down, but would still rather have kept him.

The ones I posted are facts. They are equally as misleading. That was my point.
You said “passing them off as fact”. I was just pointing out that they are fact. What you read into them is up to the eye of the interpreter.

Precisely.
I still think you’re missing the point I was making (you can’t pass things off as fact, if they are fact), but I have a degree in maths, so was being quite anal, which I accept is my issue. Feel free to continue.

Is Morgan turning into Marmite here?

There seems to be a group that think Morgan was washed up straight after he collected his Champions medal and should only have been used as an occasional substitute in the 3 years since.

There is another group that believe that, whilst now a bit slower, Morgan has mostly been as good a defender for the 3 last years, because of his experience, strength and cleverness to read a game and know where to be, so has earned the right to still be second or first choice.

There was of course a much smaller group, that might still exist, that believed that Morgan was so slow and old 5 years ago when we were promoted into the PL, that he should have been dropped and put out to grass back then!
I'm not sure anyone has written Morgan off at all. That's the rhetoric that the same old posters like to accuse others of but I'm not sure it's true. There are, however, quite a few of us who feel that he can no longer be part of a first eleven looking to evolve and push further up the league using a different style to that which brought us the improbable. We must protect our interests by investing in young, talented players and we have done that to a degree. I still think we need a little more experience now Maguire has gone but it should be experience that will last the test of time as well. That's a lot to ask, I know, but it is possible. Wes still has a part to play both on and off the pitch and I am sure he will do it as well as he always had.

I'm not missing your point. It's a very simple if not pedantic one.

The semantics don't really matter. My point is exactly the same as it was several posts ago; these statistics are irrelevant.

It’s entirely pedantic. That’s my point.

I “get” where you’re coming from, totally. I was just being a statistical arse (but to me it matters).

Morgan looked poor the season following our title win, he was a yard off the pace, and error prone, which led to the belief he was passed it.

Since then he has regained close to his best, although I think not having to play every minute of every game has helped him.

Wes is excellent at what he does. There are situations/games where you want him in your side. For me, the problem comes when he's asked to extend his game and/or cover too much ground. If Maguire pushed forward, as he was his game, then Morgan was vulnerable. I reckon it suits his game more to have Evans alongside him. Thing is, it doesn't suit our game these days.

Where did you hear that?

The sell on amount is reported to be 15%. That's based on profit we make on him, not the total fee. So if the initial fee is £80 million, Hull will get around £10 million of that.
Thought I’d read it somewhere. So 70 for Maguire. Not half bad

Sky reporting that any move for Nathan Ake is off after Bournemouth have set the asking price at £75m!

Tarkowski the target - Burnley want £40m, we won't pay more than £35m. Imagine that will get resolved and we'll sign him. They've said otherwise we'll look abroad.

We have got enough CBs. I would rather we spent the money on a Vardy partner/backup. I am very dubious about whether Nacho or Slimani are worth persevering with as possible first choice strikers.

We've got to get some of the squad players out of the door

Ake at £75m is funny but I can see why they are taking that stance. They'd take less, obviously

Tarkowski would do just fine. At 35m I think that's not unreasonable money in this bonkers market. Him and a striker or an attacking midfielder/winger will do just nicely.
