Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded spring/summer 2019 rumours thread.

I doubt they paid that much for him. If they did perhaps it involves surrendering the sell on for Zaha? Absolutely ****ing mental.

palace kept the sell on for Zaha, deal is worth £55m doesn't mean they get all of that as a flat fee, I suspect a large chuck is performance based add ons

I think its good, its about time the big clubs couldn't just take the best players from every other club whenever they felt like it.

especially when they start feeding stories to all the journalists on their payroll to try and unsettle players

It's alright as long as you're also in the top flight. Champ and below the fees drop massively. Even we have taken players off the likes of cov for a pittance when they'll probably never play for us.

well by the sounds of it we're paying between £8m-12m for a league 1 full back, it's trickling down

Ture I suppose. The fee probably would be half if they'd stayed in league one though....guesswork there though as I'd not even heard of the bloke.

If what I’m reading is correct, both Manchester clubs have made contact with Maguire’s agent and asked if he is interested in a move.

No doubt he was told that he may be. Said Manchester club then plants stories in the paper (unfounded) that Maguire will get £240,000 pw, which would unsettle anyone, Maguire then agitates for a move and hey presto a lower fee is paid as no one wants a rotten apple in the camp.

Maybe I’m being cynical?

Sounds about right

Can't see Maguire going to Man u in this window as it's a club with problems & the chance of Solskjaer still being there after a dozen games are slim
Man city maybe but they are apparently not willing to pay Leicesters asking price this might have something to do with ffp & they won't want to take a chance on being banned for a season in the champions league

I thought Maguire is not pushing a move? Classic Man City tactic trying to buy a player cheaper

If a player hasn't requested a moved are they still entitled to any transfer fee bonus? Or was that stuff of legend?

The problem is not us setting a valuation that nobody will pay.

The problem comes when Maguire's agent goes to the club, 'Okay, you've priced my client out of a move that would have earned him £250k a week when he's on £100k a week now. Show me the money . . '

I assume that we cannot afford to pay any player anywhere near the figure that he could earn elsewhere. And it would create chaos with other players at the club. That's something that cannot be reconciled. So, we are effectively forcing our players to 'kick off' (Drinkwater, Mahrez) to get the money that is available to them.

It inevitably also requires us to play a game of brinkmanship with player and buyer that scuppers our own plans.

In short, our policy sounds strong and tough but actually it is impractical and probably counter-productive. Keeping a player that wants away doesn't really work. I still fully expect Man City to get their man.

Sorry BN but the club owes Harry nothing.

A one season wonder has just gone for £50m, that makes Harry worth whatever we want.

There's no point in speculating over whether players will be 'kicking off'

I'm sure Harry is informed of what we are doing, players tend to leave here with a connection.

I'm inclined to agree.

Whether a player wants away depends on the player of course but one could understand if they did. I don't expect anyone would be sniffy at the chance to double their salary. From a different perspective, I don't think I'd want to stand in a player's way if they thought better opportunities existed elsewhere, for 2 reasons; they might become demotivated if denied, and I don't believe it's right to hinder anyone.

I'm reconciled to Maguire going this summer. Not saying he will, nor that I want him to, but I don't see it as problem if he does. Particularly if there's a sizeable cheque coming the other way, one that enables us to invest in the squad.

I believe that Harry is a reasonable person and wouldn't expect the club to 'take a hit' financially by undervaluing him in today's market.

I believe he is worth £90-100m in todsay's markt and if Man City and United haven't the decency to meet our valuation then they can just **** right off.

Them releasing his potential wages (i assume) to the press, is a tactic to unsettle him and force him to agitate TO SAVE THEM MONEY. In which case **** OFF.

If we wnt to be a big club we have to have big club bollocks, if we don't then ****s like Mahrez will walk all over us.

Maguire has plenty of career time left to ''fulfill his dream'.

Let's also not pretend that £100k plus endorsents is somehow insuffieient in any way, shape or form.

A message to the Manchester Clubs - pay what we want or **** off.

Capisce?
