Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded spring/summer 2019 rumours thread.

Unless we invest every single penny (and more) in new players, including a quality CB, then this deal is ****ing ludicrous

Weaken our starting eleven
Strengthen a direct rival in a position where they are total wank

Pocket a load of cash for no actual point whatsoever

Totally shit idea in every possible way

Surely we have not been sitting around scratching our arses. I predict 2-3 big signings in the next few days (if Maguire does go).

I agree and this is the biggest problem for me. My main problem is I don't want to be strengthening a rival. And he would.

I agree with MA that defensively I think we could replace him to at least 80% of the defensive ability (and that defence, at least centre backs) should be judged on the goals they concede.

But he would definitely strengthen Man Utd and we would at least be temporarily weakened, because even if we get a replacement in the next week they need time to bed in.

Man Utd are there for the taking at the minute and while 90m is an exceptional fee for Maguire, it doesn't help us seize this opportunity in front of us right now to move into the top 6

I really don't know how anybody can interpret that article as saying he's gone. All it says is that there is still some distance between what we want and what they are willing to pay.

The second a club stops playing a player because their head isn’t right over a transfer they want... the writing is on the wall.

Not overly against him going if we get £80m+ and have someone decent lined up.

If we cave in at £70m and end up spunking something like £50m on a clogger like Tarkowski then God help us.

I think the regret will set in when OGS sits him down and asks him if he’s ever heard of David May and babbles on about the late 90’s.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see some of the money being spent on Harry Wilson - he seems like he’d fit the bill for the attacking winger Rodgers is after.

We should be telling him to wait and see how we do this season. Leicester can fulfil his ambitions and if we can’t he can go next summer.

So 90 million+ less goals conceded is alright, yeah?
I don't see where I said that it wasn't 'alright'. In fact, I'm pretty sure it would be 'alright'. I said that A wouldn't equal B, where A is Maguire's depature and B is fewer goals conceded. I'm just looking for a bit more than 'alright'.

If you are asking for a preference however, I'd prefer to keep Maguire and concede fewer whilst having all of his other qualities rather than have squillions in the bank and fewer goals conceded without the rest he could offer. It's not that complicated really.

As for Chilwell and Ricardo being a better defenders than Maguire (I know that wasn't your comment)... that's just laughable nonsense of the Superscout/FIF/Joe Fox betting system type.
