Plenty of talented players have found the Premier League difficult to adapt to. The failure here, as with so many of our signings the last few years, is the recruitment team. It’s clear to me that whatever it is we have that functions as a scouting network has frequently identified targets who tick certain boxes but have done so with little attention paid to the type of football said targets were playing or the standard of their opposition. This is how we end up with Slimani, Silva, Iborra, Hernandez, Kramarić, Ghezzal, Diabaté etc. All players who have had success to varying degrees in other leagues, but ill-suited to the Premier League for one reason or another.
It’s very difficult for me to dismiss highly-paid professionals players as shit, but the fact is good players do turn to shit when put in the wrong place, and in the past we as a club don’t seem to have given a lot of thought to whether LCFC was a good fit for the player.
Or ill suited to the way we wanted them to play.
