Interesting that Castagne was almost a Celtic player in January 2019. Celtic couldn't pay the asked for £12m so he stayed at Atalanta.

At 24 years old would be a good acquisition if we get him at £15m and preserve some money for a centre half and forward . i like the sound of it.

Personally I'm nervous about us signing a right wing back to play left back, but hopefully they've done their diligence on this one and it's a good move.

Adding a versatile player to the squad is a good move, especially at full back when we currently only have Thomas and Justin fit for the first couple of months of the new season.

Maybe he's not signing as our first choice left back but to add depth, especially if he can also play further forward.

I think we might shift Justin to left back for the first portion of the season if we've signed Castagne. Castagne is a full internationl player with European experience after all.
The fact both have played both positions is a bonus. We don't have very long to wait for Ricardo to be back (maybe 4 or 5 games into the season from what i've heard?). When we won the title we had De Laet and Schlupp at left and right back until about the 5 or 6th game of the season until switching to Simpson and Fuchs.

I thought that he was bang average at right back through the run in and his better performances were in central defence.

He's got pace and is 6 foot so could do a job there long term. I doubt whether he'll make the grade as a PL full back/wing back.

So if he lasts long enough to make 33 signings, we'll get 4 great players (Sturridge, Coutinho, Milner, Firmino), 4 decent PL players (Ings, Lallana, Toure, Clyne) and 25 players to keep Slimani and co company.

This is all going to end badly isn't it. At least Rodgers only has 5 years left on his contract to pay out...
