Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded summer 2022 rumours thread

Southampton have made some relatively decent signings in that time tbf.

I'd say his track record looks better than Congertons...

Certainly sounds better when you read this https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/...cester-city-martyn-glover-southampton-7026460
This is far from City recruiting a friend of a friend to head up their recruitment. Glover is an experienced and respected operator who will be invaluable to Leicester over the coming years.

Possibly the best news in that article.

You sound like you know more than most of us about Glover?

On the impending appointment of Martyn Glover as our new head of recruitment.

I've done some reading on him. He's a Sam Allardyce acolyte. From the same stock as Pearson and Walsh. That blend of old school and new ideas.

There is much nonsense spoken about Allardyce. He was innovative in his approach to recruitment well before clubs cottoned onto the importance of stats.

Pearson and Walsh set us up in a similar way. Since 2016, we've lost almost everybody that made up that team but Glover is a sign that we're going back to basics.

As much as I called the appointment of Congerton idiotic and doomed, I'll go on record early on to say that this is a very intelligent decision.

These roles are all about having someone with the scouting eyes and negotiating skills to complement the stats. I think he's likely to fit our requirements perfectly.

To be fair, he helped to find some poor stupid suckers upon which to offload Bertrand and Vestergaard

So he’s a ****ing genius in my eyes

Well, if he can find us players of the ilk of Fofana, Justin and Castagne he will have done well....

He was also quite innovative in his training methods being if not the first but one of the first to use ice baths. He also pioneered having players in an offside position running back onside at a free kick from outside the box.

Wine in a pint glass too. ****ing genius, saves you having to keep getting up to refill your glass or calling a waiter over.

Ahh this reminds me of Ian Walker's absolute howler against them when they started doing the offside thing at free kicks.

I read his book and IIRC, he picked up a lot of his techniques from American football, who used to train in the same complex as his team while he was out there playing in whatever the pre-MLS league was called.

I had an accountant who also worked for Notts County for a number of years. She told me that Sam Allardyce was one of the nicest people she had ever met in football. Colin Wanker, on the other hand, was a piece of shit.

It is a shame that Big Sam finished as he did. He was very successful at a number of clubs, just ask Newcastle fans what they thought about his dismissal, and was very innovative in his training methods and his analysis of what was going on during matches.

His kiss of death was being given the name BIG SAM. From BIG MAL, through BIG RON, that title has always lead to a BIG DOWNFALL. C'mon BIG BREN
