What I don't understand is how can they be a scam? What do they get out of us leaving bags on the front not to be collected?

Most aren't charities as you might assume. It's quite big business.

They are normally collected by a third party company, who sell the clothes on a per ton basis and then donate a portion of what profit is made to the charity advertised on the bag. If you read the text on the bag it will tell you some of this.

You could take the view that a lot of people can't be arsed to take clothes to a charity shop and so the charity is gaining from these people where they wouldn't normally and the company processing the collections is therefore making a profit but also doing some good.

Or take it to the shop and make sure the charity gets it all
