El Dude Brother.
Andrew Taylor raised an interesting in point in the last of the FT's Q&A sessions.

If we got back in to the premiership, how would you like to see the £20m spent? Buy back the stadium or buy a top class striker...

hmmmmmmmmm
if we buy back the stadium we have got rid of a big financial worry but may possibly get relegated
if we buy a top class striker theres a good chance we wont get relegated but if we do we fecked again, though if not and we stay up could buy the stadium back later

buy back the stadium. Pormotion needs to help secure the club long term. just coz we spend say 5-10million on a striker doesnt in anyway mean we are gonna stay up. Look at middlesborugh in the late 90's they had ravanelli (sp) up front and still went down.

would rather own the stadium and come straight back down then have a striker that gives us a flase dawn with a couple of seasons in the premier.

Buy the Striker. If we get relegated again we can sell him off again.

Buy the stadium. Does this mean a complete buy out or "mortgage". If a complete buy out, then the stadium, if we get relegated we haven't got the worries about repayments on the stad. If we own it but are still paying, then the striker option is better.

It all depends on who the striker is and what price we can get him for.

Is this how mad football has got. A striker is valued at the same as 32,000 seat football stadium

Voted the same myself but would you be more emotive if it actually happened?
Not really, I just think the stadium debt is a millstone round our neck, also one player ain't gonna guarantee anything. Also, would a player worth £20m really want to come to Filbert Way?

In practice it is a false choice - given that the squad would need strengthening by more than one player and the wage bill would go up overall, the amount of disposable cash would in fact be much less.

However, I would give priority to at least reducing the stadium debt, therby reducing the drain on resources year on year.

Any way would a "top class striker" really want to come to a team newly promoted and up to it's armpits in debt?

I was just using Andrew Taylors words. To clarify, spend £20M buying back the stadium or spend £20M on strengthening the squad?

In that case £20,000,000 now on strengthening the squad and getting us back into the prem to pay off the stad

As if this Board would ever sanction the spending of £20million on players ??

It's a pointless argument

Thats not an option you tit!! :icon_bigg
You just said in Andrew Taylors words "Strengthening The Squad", so this poll is now about what "you" think and I am only allowed to buy a striker with that £20,000,000

In which case, I reserve my right to abstain from the voting. I wouldn't wish to see £20,000,000 spent on 1 player :icon_wink

I've voted for a 20-goals-a-season striker - presumably he would cost rather less than £20M, so some of the rest can go on paying him. As long as the debt on the stadium is serviceable, I don't see it as too much of a problem and a reliable striker would go a long way towards raising our status and helping us to pay our way and compete.

Many, many organisations don't own the premises that they operate from/in. Many, many families and individuals live in houses that they don't own, whether through lease or mortgage; there is no need for the cost to be a 'millstone' if it is properly budgetted.

The chance to buy a 20-goal-a-season striker is a rare one and shouldn't be missed. There will be further chances to buy the stadium (if we ever really need to).

How about 5mil on new players, 5 mil to cover their wages and 10mil on the stadium.

Good way to go about it IMO
