Gianfranco Zola, Didier Drogba, David Ginola, Faustino Asprilla and Roberto Di Matteo to name a few.

All of the above were well established players. Anyone could have picked them out. Drogba was scoring loads of goals for Marseille before he moved to Chelsea. They moved to Chelsea because of the money that they had to spend and not because they thought that Steve Walsh was the greatest scout ever. On that basis, I can do as good a job as Steve Walsh by suggesting we bring in Ronaldo, Schweinsteiger,Messi..

How many young, and up and coming players has he unearthed in recent years?

He scored 19 league goals for Marseille in total. Hardly loads.

Had you ever heard of any of these players (bar Zola, who I'll agree was already well known) before they joined Chelsea or Newcastle? It isn't the same as suggesting Messi or Ronaldo at all. Chelsea and Newcastle were hardly the biggest spending teams at the time. Newcastle had only just come out the Second Division.

He was with us for 2 seasons and he brought us probably the best 2 young prospects we've had since Heskey in Hobbs and Morrison in that time.

In 2 seasons we got: Tunchev, Hobbs, Morrison, Weale, Davies, Cleverley, Waghorn, Berner and Spearing. That's a pretty incredible signing record in 2 seasons for a side who were in the 3rd and 2nd tier.

Di Matteo wasn't exactly a great hit at Chelsea. Zola was average - what did he achieve at international level. Both were already 'established' players that people knew about. Drogba scored quite a few goals in the Champions league and attracted the interest of the leading clubs in Europe. I'm sure that Abramovich's financial support was in place before Drogba came.

Asprilla was a disaster at Newcastle. If you remember, he joined them when they were about 12 points clear of Man Utd. He is often quoted as Keegan's biggest mistake in losing the title. When he joined them, Newcastle were certainly one of the top four teams in the country, so I don't know why you think that they had just come out of the Second Division.

I still maintain that the guys who spotted the talent of Kevin McDonald, Alan Smith, Neil Lennon and Muzzy Izzet are far better than Mr Walsh's contribution of Hobbs and Morrison.

Zola - Average? I'm sure a lot of Chelsea fans will tell you he was the greatest player in their history. Di Matteo - not a hit there? Now you're just making stuff up.

When Izzet, Lennon, smith and McDonald were spotted were were a top division team, so we had a hell of a lot more players to chose from. With inflation Muzzy Izzet probably also cost more than our entire transfer budget for last season. When Walsh came in we were a third division team, you can't just compare the player directly.

Zola and Di Matteo did very little at international level. Same league as the likes of Gerrard and Lampard -vastly overrated. How many titles did Zola nd Di Matteo win at Chelsea?

Izzet and Lennon came to us when we were in the Second Division. The same applies to Smith and McDonald. We were not a 'top division' team at the time. Smith's first full season in 1983/84 resulted in a bag full of goals in the Second Division, followed by more goals in the First Division. He only cost £ 12,000. I belive he was the late and great Jock Wallace's last signing for us.

Di Matteo and Zola were both incredible players back in the day for Chelsea. I can remember watching them as a youngster, I thought they were awesome!

But what does what they did at international level have to do with anything?! Steve Walsh was the scout for Chelsea, not Italy! They were not discovered for how they would play for Italy, but for Chelsea, where both were fantastic players.

And you are comparing the careers of Lennon, Izzet, Smith and McDonald after seeing them in full to Hobbs, Morrison, Waghorn and Davies, none of whom have even had the majority of their careers yet, they could well go on to become better players.

What did Steve Walsh ever do for us?
Well he brought in a current Bulgarian international to play in League One
Yes but apart from Tunchev what did Steve Walsh ever do for us?
Well he brought in Lloyd Dyer who was one of thre best wingers in League One
Yes but apart from Tunchev and Dyer what did Steve Walsh ever do for us?
(Loud shouts from the crowd)

You're assuming that Walsh was responsible for all our signings.

For example NP knew Dyer from when he was at West Brom so I would think that signing was down to him rather than Walsh.

Many people would argue that David Batty was his biggest mistake, a player whose arrival changed the way they played

The Newcastle that were bankrolled to buy whoever Keegan wanted at the time? Sir John Hall allowed him to spunk away whatever money he wanted...they were far from being poor.

I still think Kermorgant could come good.

I agree with you. Hopefully he will get over the whole penalty incident and come good for us. He just needs a good run in the team.

Pearson had also worked with many of the loan players previously at England youth level.

... Vialli, Ravenelli, Mancini etc etc .... I think several millions of us discovered these stars sitting on our fat arses in front of the telly after lunch of a Sunday, courtesy of Channel 4's Football Italia, the only free live footy after Sky hijacked the Premiership in 1992.

You sure like your wholes don't you? Is it a bit of a verbal tick?

Yes, the whole tick is taking over me! I need help else this whole thing will take over my whole life!

I am sure there will have been an announcement about who Sousa is bringing with him to replace Shakespeare and Walsh bur I must have missed it. Who are they?
Also is Chris Powell staying on under the new regime.
