I ended up on this site following something else and it brought a few memories back.

Joe Jopling what a player:icon_lol:
and the Semi final 0-0 against Liverpool at the end of the month - I went to that game at Old Trafford and the replay at Villa Park when we lost.

I see it mentions that some England players couldn't therefore go to Portugal with Ramsey as involved in the replay. Any City players? Shilton? others?

But who was this John Waters bloke?

I was at that match and remember the excitement of this new discovery, Joe Waters, scoring two goals on his debut. He didn't live up to it and soon vanished without trace.

Hardly without trace! He went on to play over 350 games for Grimsby and holds their record for consecutive appearences (almost 5 seasons without missing a game IIRC). He then went to the US and both played and coached over there, some of the time with Keith Weller.

But yes, he never lived up to the promise of that first game.
