Fair enough, I never saw him play. Just remember my uncle referring to him as a midfielder once.
Of course being too good for the Championship does not mean being Prem quality as the gulf is huge.
Do you think there might be some sort of metaphysical limbo league in between the two where players like that end up?
The Champiership?
Old firm Derbies.

Some of them end up in Premiership teams struggling against relegation, others on Prem subs benches or reserve teams.
An obvious example is Martyn Waghorn. In the last third of the season I thought he was outstanding at Championship level. However, few people expect that he will be in the regular starting XI for Sunderland.
Obviously years can change this. Martyn Waghorn at his peak may well be Prem class and then in his thirties end up back in the Championship.
The biggest example of a gulf in class I have known is Roger Davies. As a First Division player he was regarded as a bit of a joke but he was the finest non-league player I have ever seen.
Eh?
Lloyd Dyer is a player we got for free.
We've had quite a few players for free in the last 2-3 seasons (Dickov, N'Gotty, Newton, Cort etc). Admittedly some weren't very good, but it's not been seven years since we signed a player on a free deal.

Not a bad signing at all he looks to be a decent player and I remember seeing his celebration against Bury which was quite funny, decent signing I hope.

But it's a while since any have played without getting paid.
It's a disgrace, footballers expecting to get money just for kicking a ball around.
Most people are happy just to do it for the love of the game.
If we can't get any English players to play for free we should get some of those foreign types in. Those happy go lucky Africans will play for free as long as you give them somewhere for their goats to graze. Or get some Irish in, give them a sack of potatoes a month and they'll do anything for you. Wouldn't like to have one living next door though.
