Morrison has been outstanding this season. He has the positional sense and the ability to read the game of a much older player, he's not a hard tackling, showy defender but the amount of times he has intercepted a promising opportunity for the opposition is countless. He's also very adventurous for a defender which I like to see, yet while pushing forward he always remains behind the ball and is never caught out of a defensive position on a counter attack.

Wellens to me is just an average Championship midfielder with the odd glimpse of class. I'd be quite happy having played just Oakley and King this season. They've worked best as a midfield three anyhow. Wellens and Oakley or Wellens and King never worked as well as them all together either.

I think you underestimate his impact. He never goes missing in games, unlike King and Oakley. I've lost count of the amount of times he's won the ball or drawn a fool and eased the pressure on our defence.
I think the guys quality on the ball (sure a few will disagree with that) and has great vision. Granted he has his bad points - his passing can sometimes go a stray, and he's not going to cover every blade of grass on the pitch.

Yes, Morrisons a promising player. But its only the last few months he's made the right back spot his own and I think his impact on the team this season has been as half as much as Wellens.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then. When Wellens has been out Oakley and King have coped fine, and were as good as any partnership invloving Wellens.

When Morrison has been out we've had to put up with a walking hospital at RB and whenever he's played CB alongside Hobbs we've looked infintely more assured than with Brown playing there.

Agree

I agree with the morrison part he is a very good right back and we would be mad to let him go for any price, but for me, Wellens is the best midfielder we have. He might not have played as well as he did last season, but he is far better than Oakley and King. He is a great passer and tackler and is as hard as nails. He hasn't got forward as much as he did last season however, as King to be fair, has been doing more of that. Wellens is generally more consistent than the rest of our midfield and has better technical ability.

People keep saying this about King. I must have got some of the players mixed up. Who's the lad who wears number 10? I thought that was King but it can't be - number 10 works his nuts off every game. Can anyone tell me who it is? :102:

I agree he has the most technical ability without question, but I cannot agree about consistency, for me he has been by far and away the least consistent of our 3 midfielders. King is the epitamy of consistency. Wellens' form fluctuates from game to game.

What's going on?

For what it's worth, MATCH magazine have done their top 50 Football League stars this week as well. Chris Weale's at 42 and Jack Hobbs is No. 36. I know it's a kids mag, but is it a better reflection of City's top performers than FourFourTwo?

Yeah I think so. I've not seen two many games this season when Oakley or King have been outstanding. I've seen quite a few where Wellens has.

Tommy's point I think is that Wellens picks up a lot of second ball and tidies up. Whereas King and Oakley don't so much - I don't think that's a slur on either play, just more the role they have within the team.Wellens is a massive part of the team for me, he keeps the shape, he communicates, he has that attitude of a winner that neither King or Oakley possess.

exactly. People just need to remember that Wellens is far better then some of the shite we've had in recent years.

So am I, I think he is an excellent player.

Wellens has done great for us and is a v good player. The only contention appears to be that Hobbs should have been on that list above him. In my opinion, Kingy would be above him as well, but I'm well aware that that's a minority opinion.
