You are wise my son. Come join me and we will make the world great.

How do I get these £16 tickets then? Are you saying its better to buy two seperate tickets?? EG One to Sheffield and then Manchester.

One ticket to Nottingham, one ticket from Nottingham to Manchester.

But you don't need to travel via Nottingham, you could go via Derby instead. A Leicester to Nottingham ticket is valid via Derby, and a Nottingham to Manchester ticket is also valid via Derby (despite a Derby to Manchester ticket being more expensive!).

This only works if you're coming back on the same day though.

I can get tickets through my brother who works for Midland Mainline...

I am sure that Jeff will have already checked this. He was suggesting that you should buy on from Leicester to Nottingham and another from Nottingham to Sheffield.

Even though the two tickets are valid to/from Nottingham, you would not need to go there. This is because you may travel from Leicester to Nottingham via Derby and you can also travel from Nottingham to Manchester via Derby. So you would travel via the same route that you already do, via Derby to Sheffield - but change from the one ticket to the other at Derby.
