Offence: A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:

* Interfering with play

* Interfering with an opponent

* Gaining an advantage by being in that position.

Connolly was gaining an advantage by being in an offside position when the Leicester player played the ball. It does not matter that it then hit the Wolves player, unless he then controlled it and passed it to Connolly.

Like i say, i cant see what advatage connolly is supposed to have gained, as his position has no efffect on any wolves player around him.

This incident reminds of the stunt Bolton pulled last year when on free kicks they would put 2 strikers 6 yards offside near the goal, so they had lost their markers. When the kick was taken they ran back into onside postions in space to get a pass or knockdown.
