The Mockery reported five months ago that he'd undergone surgery to stimulate new growth in his damaged left/right? knee cartilage - the technique called microfracture has impressive success in the US for what they call high-impact sports such as "soccer" [sic] .... but full recovery is generally one year ... so I'm sceptical that he'll be back before his contract runs out.

If we were talking about playing bowls or darts then I think there would be strong grounds for optimism.

Unfortunately for the player and the club and the fans we are talking about professional football in one of the most physically challenging and pacey leagues in the world.

With the sort of injuries and radical attempted remedies that apply in this case it's not remotely likely it will happen.

It's likely to take the form that the poor guy will try to continue his recovery and at some point he will break down.

Yes they would.

Its happened before with previous similar cases - but it almost never works.

The lad will want to play again - of course he will - and the club will want him to play again (especially as I understand that we don't carry the insurance to cover player retirement through injury), but the chances of him coming back and being able to play on any sort of regular basis are remote to say the least.

He's been out for a hell of a time now and even if they get the knees half OK - we'll doubtless find the other injuries which tend to crop up when there have been major problems of this kind.

It's a tragedy for the player concerned when this happens - but its all part of the game, I'm afraid.

If so, I think you're doing so against all the evidence. True, a fair proportion never make it, but not remotely likely? I'd estimate more than 50% of players with similar injuries play again.

AFAIK the cruciate ligament damage he sustained against Palace is healed. The second injury was a cartilage which from reports is more difficult to heal, hence my doubts earlier that a return after five months is possible.

Which won't be much of a change especially in these sorts of cases.

Have you read about the severity of the injury and the radical treatment that they have tried to rejuvenate the affected area? Idon't know about you, but I'm not a knee specialist myself, but it sounds worse than problematic.

I hope you are right - but I don't think it's going to happen.

How dare you suggest that my mate, Redditch, might be talking bollocks? Tunchev is finished.

Anybody who interprets what has been revealed today as meaning that the player will soon be back is just fooling himself. Still a month and the he can start progressing towards training. And look what happened last time - another breakdown long before he was anywhere near to put in an appearance.

Tunchev was a cracking signing two years ago.

He's been injured for 18 months now. His knees are fecked.

As a result, he will never be the player he could have been for us.

Eadie and Wesolowski to name but two, are former examples of the rule.

He will reappear as a sad shadow of his former self and slope away back to the Bulgarian 2nd division next season.

Shame, but highly likely.
