I am amazed that our players are still using it. Danns is taking some abuse at the minute and yesterday some twats were having a go at Gallagher's wife. I really can't understand the mentality of people who think it is acceptable behaviour.

And the arse making death threats to Aaron Ramsey.

Our fans are very special.

It's a site that needs some serious moderation, the amount of times I've come across people being abused on there is shocking. Fourth Official who I know isn;t everyone's cup of tea, gets abuse from all sets of fans (including our own) for simply posting transfer rumours. It's crazy!

Completely agree, no idea why any player, or famous person in any profession would use it, all they're doing it opening themself up to abuse. People spout the most horrible abuse at people they wouldn't dare speak in real life on it. Did you see all that abuse Patrice Evra and Stan Collymore got on it recently, as well? It's all absolutely disgusting.

I can see why some famous people who are often misquoted in the press would like to use it to set the record straight on some things, but two-way communication is just stupid unless you enjoy getting abuse on a regular basis (I know homer and alex do etc etc). Too many nutters around.

Which all means that the government's policy of having plebs rate hospitals and teachers with online systems is just going to be peachy and in no way attract abusive little shits with axes to grind.

The abuse Stan Collymore gets on there is horrific. I think he handles it quite well though by often retweeting it so everyone else can see the twats that message him.

It's disgusting though.

It works the other way though; Michael Ball is facing a misconduct charge for one of his tweets, another one of our players retweeted a reasonable question without replying, knowing that the questioner would be subjected to abusive tweets themselves for having the temerity to ask, and yet another one of our players responded to a troll in possibly the most unprofessional and immature ways possible.

Twitter is great for interaction between players and fans, but there needs to be some common sense, and respect shown by all users.

Players and celebrities don't have to be on Twitter, they use it as personal advertising, if they want to use Twitter without getting abuse they can protect their Tweets and block people.

There are as many abuses of Twitter by high profile people as there are by 'trolls' and as stated in the preceding reply some of the players at City have used Twitter inappropriately resulting in other people being abused on the site.

Twitter is for socially inept idiots.

Maybe they just like to use it for the same reasons we like to use it? I agree on the main point though, it wouldn't be acceptable to go up to someone in a pub and say these sorts of things so it shouldn't be on the internet either. Infact, if they did it in a pub they'd probably get a smack in the chops, they obviously think the fact that they have a computer screen to hide behind makes it acceptable which says something about the IQ of these cretins.

It brings up an interesting question regarding the way public figures or "role models" should behave on twitter too.

For example David Nugent has been tweeting recently about Celeb Big Brother, 99% of his tweets contained the phrase ......should **** off, or .....should go and **** themselves.

Now Mr Nugent is a grown up and is perfectly entitled to use expletives as he wishes, but as an aforementioned role model, should he??...

This is a good point, as this is no different from people telling him to 'f*** off' or 'f*** himself'. Swings and roundabouts, at the end of the day they give it out so I expect they are also happy to take some flak. All down to personal opinions and preferences again.
