Don't do it. It's a waste of ****ing time. We all save a few quid now which is pretty much insignifcant but simply have to pay more back in the long run. The government are borrowing more to pay for it all.

I would suggest that if you want to give people more money you cut taxes but cut spending to pay for the cuts.

So what do they cut spending on ?

Keep VAT the same - as you say it just costs to change everything - spend the money raised in the correct way.

I'm socialist, this isn't a socialist idea. making the rich pay more is but then again they'll just get around it. The govt. needs to look at how it's spending the money not how it's raising the money and forget PC and "correct" money wasting ideas.

Cut spending in the public sector by reducing number of manger roles in all areas of Local Authority and the NHS etc. Then use these cuts to reduce taxes gradually over a period of time. There is no quick fix scheme and knocking 2.5% off VAT will end up costing businesses millions they don’t have to change all their pricing stickers etc (unless they don’t bother and keep the prices the same and just pay less tax into the system).

Cutting the id card scheme as duzzer suggests. Then cut spending on new tramsways and congestion charging schemes until after we come out of this and it all starts to pick up again.

I'm sure there's more to running a country than you lot and your penny saving suggestions would imagine.

Politicians and financial experts are spending all day every day trying to solve this problem, I doubt a bunch of dimwit lads from Leicester have any idea what they are talking about.

Maybe, but I am not sure a scheme whereby you only save money by spending it, given the financial back drop, will be a runaway roaring success. Surely directly putting money in peoples pockets is the way forward? :102:

We have to take the hit now. The Government has been pinching from the pension pot for some time and now the pot is bare. Nothing at all and nothing to sustain us through this recession. As brutal as it sounds the only sensible way to get out of this mess is for everybody to pay more. It will be tough and may take a couple of years to get out of but this 'alternative' the Government are proposing will not be better at all and could see us in a mess for much much longer.

But if they hold on to it and don't spend it then doesn't the economy suffer further:102:

All true but on the evidence of what happened in the US when they got cash in the hand recently, it gave a definite lift to the economy. :102:

Definitley agree that fuel companies, banks and all those others who make obscene amounts of profit from the people (who have so little choice) should have to pay much more tax. 100% over a certain amount would suit me fine - and that's before bonus/sharholders payouts.

i think he should have put corporate tax up and had the balls to tax non-doms

corporate problem...corporations pay

the tories can whinge all they like about free market...but free market ****ed it up and bail outs cost money
