I think it's a crud control measure, and I have experience of it in France. It penalises the normal person, a "criminal" will be able to get hold of a fake card very easily - for a price.

I believe our problems are our Government's fault. They sat by and did sod all while the things that caused repossessions, negative equity etc the first time around during the Tory reign, proliferated again i.e. lending money to people without the means to pay it back. The job of Government is to have learnt by past mistakes and prevent them happening again, not just sit on their hands. Brown promised no return to boom and bust, well here it is.

As for trying something, it's like saying to someone who's drunk too much..."don't suffer the hangover, have another drink". Instead of a headache, we'll now get liver failure. Cheers Mr Brown.

Things don't get fixed overnight. And they don't get fixed by carrying on doing the same thing that broke them in the first place.

The real problem is that Capitalism doesn't work and we have all gone too far down that road. Capitalism needs socialist control and heart. Socialism needs capitalist ruthlessness.
