What we’re seeing now is sheer desperation from the Russians in retaliation for the attack on the bridge in Crimea. Short term it will only motivate the Ukrainian fighters even further. They did the same in Syria, unbelievably nasty, cruel and completely pointless attacks on civilians. I do wonder whether they’ll use chemical weapons on civilians at some point.Surprised this thread isn't more active. Is there any fear over there about escalation? For me, the fear is the use of tactical nukes. That would surely be the beginning of the end, or maybe the end of the beginning, not sure, but it's a quiet for sure.
The use of nukes would be real endgame, Hitler in the bunker before he blows his brains out stuff. I don’t think it would mean Moscow being wiped off the face of the earth or anything but it would surely be the final straw for the likes of India, China and Turkey to turn their backs on Putin.
It’s going to get very ugly this winter either way.
This is a good podcast, particularly episode 8 which looks at the way in which the conflict has been reported in the west.
